I saw Telkoms 50Gig softcap 10mb Fibre deal for R699, I'm paying R791 for adsl (4mb uncapped).

So I'm just deciding which is a better option, now im sure after 50gigs are up my speed gets throttled but to how much? I know 50gigs won't last me because I stream a lot,but if the throttled speed isn't too bad (I'm able to still stream) then it seems good choice.

I haven't checked yet if my area has Fibre capability, also what do I need to get fibre are there any like extra cost other than just R699

Just checked Fibre isn't available for me yet :( but I'd still like to know about the above questions

You can use a different ISP, and approach them directly to install. Most ISP's have better pricing and larger caps than Telkom

Speak to DJ from Crystal Web, he can explain it better

ISPAfrika can supply a 10Mbps fibre line for R469pm. If you added on a 150GB Crystal Web capped account for R389pm the total cost would be R858. CW do manage fibre lines now though - not sure what they charge for a 10Mbps line.

Last I heard, the Telkom soft caps are a joke. The internet will barely be fast enough for light internet browsing, and certainly not suitable for gaming, streaming and downloading.

The reason I thought of Telkom is because of the pricing R699 is okay compared to what I'm paying now for adsl. My budget is around R800...

My usage is 200-300GB per month on 4Mb/s. 50GB soft cap definitely won't work in my case. If you're the same, don't do it.

The pricing doesn't matter if the account isn't suitable for your needs. How much data do you typically use in a month?

I just spoke to a crystalweb rep online, my area isn't covered however the road across etc is. That's strange :(

Also they told me about the 4mb uncapped premium for R868 but there's a expensive set up cost :/

So not sure with them yet.

@Bryn I have like 4 devices using it (family) but that's when they home, I do most streaming. I would say 200-250 would be sufficient with me OR uncapped if better lol

One more question, I have a 4mb line and streaming on Kodi isnt always great, how would a 4mb Fibre be different?? I mean it's the same speed

The R868 uncapped price doesn't include line rental.

No matter who you go with for fibre, you'll need to pay at least R1.7k for installation unless you have an overpriced long term contract. A new router is needed too if your current one doesn't have a WAN port.

With Cybersmart we pay R999 for 400Mbps and a 500Gb day cap with a 1000g night cap or R599 for a 200g day cap and 1000g night data, also far better latency than Telkom... 140ms to EU and 2ms to CPT.

On which fibre network? There are many cheap non-Telkom fibre options. Nothing new...

R999 includes everything or you pay another cost besides just the R999?

I steam alot and its bliss on this network - I can stream 8k if my browser doesnt crash and get 20MBps up and down from a US server via SSH.

That's awesome :o

But I was looking at the deals on Cybersmart

The second option (200gigs) seems like a good option but then on a month to month contract that's R3000 for installing :o

You realise he's not talking about Telkom fibre right? Have you checked which fibre network has been established near you?

I don't think anything has been added to my area, but I'm just asking to get an idea of the prices and how's the service etc
