Telkom Fixed Wireless in Midrand

Hi,

Due to a high number of occurrences of cable theft in Midrand (across Allandale), Telkom will not be replacing the cable and have provided us with Telkom Fixed wireless units. As a result, we have lost access to ADSL.

There are a large number of residential complexes and businesses in the are which will be affected. If you have been affected, can you please respond? Also, what solution are you looking at for broadband? I've switched to Neotel (data package) - the speeds have been good but erratic - sometimes they're great, sometimes average.

Any information or suggestions would be appreciated.

How exactly doe people steal copper wires? I mean do they dig the concrete with super-shovels or what? Sorry to hear that, it must really suck.

Underground? Very simple, extremely fast... Open manhole #1 and cut cable. Open manhole #2, cut cable and attach to a winch on a truck or bakkie. 200m of copper cable - gone in 60 seconds. Proceed to next manhole.

Overhead? Go to pole #1 and cut cable. Move to pole #2, cut cable, attach cable to winch - gone in 60 seconds. Proceed to next pole!

Either sell to scrap dealer, as is, or through in huge pit and burn off the plastic sheath and then sell to scrap dealer. Export to Far East...
