So, does this mean you can have "ADSL/VDSL" without paying the line rental component for voice?
IF the predominant connectivity medium is fibre to the junction/distribution box from the exchange, then could you theoretically cancel your copper voice line and continue with the VDSL over the copper to the box, then fibre to the exchange?

Hehe justplain. I think you're an optimist. If you can get away from paying Telkom's telephone line rental of R199 a month, please let me know. You could be right, if one day you're on fibre all the way to your house, with no copper inbetween. Me thinks.

Also, considering Fibre prices, this 100mb ADSL/VDSL would need to be seriously competitive in the price department.

VDSL2_spoed_speed.jpg

Neil Fairbrother says:

“The result of fundamental laws of physics as applied to VDSL2 is represented by this graphic, which shows the rate of speed drop off with length of copper wire from a VDSL2 equipped street-side cabinet."

"The electrical signals (frequency) and thus the speed of broadband, runs out of steam very quickly. So if you happen to live close to one of these street-side cabinets, you’ll get download speeds of around 80Mbps, but notice how quickly the speed reduces with distance, 1000m out and the speed has dropped by 66%"

"Is G.Fast the answer? Alas, no.”

Windsor Castle is slightly north from The Home Park Golf Course. Queen Elizabeth might have 10 mbps internet.

I don't see this as an issue. At the end of the day the main issue is that Fibre will remain the better medium for last mile.

^^Yoh, did they break Wayde? How come he's struggling to get away from that little oke?

Hi Super Grandmaster Sabre Wulf. Actually the little guy is about to lap Wayde van Niekerk, overtaking him for the second time. Fibra Óptica is his name, he’s from Rio de Janeiro in Portugal, he speaks Flemish. Me thinks.
