I have just received this from my ISP provider

Telkom has recently advised us of changes to the structure of their wholesale ADSL service, which will take effect from 1 November 2005. This will result in the introduction of a 'hard-cap' policy whereby all Internet access stops once your cap is reached. This affects all Internet services, i.e. browsing (local and international), e-mail, ftp etc. This should not affect the majority of our members, who generally operate within the limits of their current product cap.

Telkom signs up more customers but cant handle the pace????? :(

They have more than enough capacity to handle the pace, they're just finding new ways to shaft the public.

hard capping

True and I dont think a competitor in the buisness is going change anything either...if and when that happens

I see many ISP's have inform their customers of changes coming on 1 Nov 2005 - Telkom ISP has done none of this so far

we've known about hard capping from 1st nov for a while now, d-day is closing in so everyone is getting all excited but we should've done something about this long ago.

Don't the SNO have a hefty fiber backbone that could give telkom a run for their money? That + unbundled local loop and we may have a chance?

Yay 100 posts :D :D :D

Telkom has what, over 100,000km worth of fibre last time i checked.. theyve got lots of bandwidth but rather than sell more bandwidth for less, they sell less bandwidth for more.

Sooner or later I am going to want Telkom dismantled rather than changed...

What they really are saying is that it won't affect you as long as you don't use up all the bandwidth you pay for... Always use LESS!

Let Telkom overcharge you and then still underutilize the service! Now that is a brilliant idea folks! WTF!!!!

DIE TELKOM! DIE!!!!

The majority generally operate within the limits YES because if they dont they have NOTHING!

its strange, got the bill from Telkom Isp, but nothing said about the hard capping and new pricing structure, does it affect people who have telkom as an ISP, cuz if they have to give u a month warning, they haven't, and if it doesn't affect people with them as an ISP, that will be unfair play....

The Telkomsa site is saying (the BOLD bits are interesting. of course "abuse" is not defined anywhere I can see):

* When your cap is reached

Once your cap threshold has been achieved you may purchase further Gigs of usage in the form of usernames to maintain unrestricted service. Although TelkomInternet currently allows capped users restricted access to international sites and applications, and unrestricted access to local content, e-mail and applications, TelkomInternet reserves the right to deny authentication to any ADSL users dependent on network usage or abuse.

I have a client who is using saix as their isp :-( where can I get proof of what is going to happen so I can move my client to another isp ?

Many people have asked about avenues for complaints with regard to the 1st of November changes to ADSL charges and capping. I have spoken to ICASA and they are of the opion that complaints can indeed help strengthen the findings report. I therefor ask that as many people as possible complain by sending an email (they prefer email for tracking purposes) to:

D Ngoasheng (Senior manager consumer affairs)
Email: [email protected] (liason)

The following fax number can be used if you have to fax, but only if you really cannot email:
Fax: 0114481369

Send your complaints through ASAP! Any material you might have received from your ISP or Telkom should also be forwarded with due notice...

Thanks in advance
Antowan
