Hi I think Telkom has blocked the VoIP calls. When I receive the call from overseas, I'm not able to hear the voice of other party. I'm also unable to connect the call from phone (Telkom) - to - Phone (Overseas). These guys are sick. Firstly the internet and telecommunication is very expensive in this country. Now they started taking out the work arounds. REALLY PATHETIC:D

I have my doubts about them blocking VOIP calls... serious doubts. Because it would have major repercussions.

Call them up and see what they say

They should not be able to block it as they cannot differentiate between voice and data.

Well I have been using SKYPE since 10am and everything is working PERFECTLY. Telkom cannot block content on there data network. This is not CHINA or NORTH KOREA:mad:

I think your problem lies elsewhere....

/OT- I never understand these guys who register and make a post only months later:confused:

i am guessing you are using SIP so your inbound "control channel" usually 5060 pass's through your firewall but the RTP (the actual voice) which chooses a random port usually between 10000-2000 as per RFC is blocked. If you firewall is stateful it would explain the calling out issue.

I use Vodacom 3G Internet. I connect the call from my Telkom to overseas through Voip. When I complained Telkom, today they called me and said that there should be a problem with Vodacom as it is the ISP. But I really dont understand, once the call is betwee phone-to-phone, then where the voice is getting blocked. I tried calling from Telkom Home line to Telkom office line through Voip but not able to hear at both ends.

If there is anything to be changed in any of the settings please let me know.

Hi Try placing a call from phone - phone through skype. Your end should be a Telkom landline phone. Please let me know if you are able to hear the voice on your Telkom.

Only in Africa. I've made skype calls to countries that are considered the worst ito freedom and human rights abuses on this planet with no problem. Seriously, this country has gone down the drain, over and over agains. This country, government and our so called business leaders are about as credible and smart as the lump I leave in the toilet bowl each morning.

Ok, sorry what?

If you're using VOIP and Vodacom 3G is your ISP.. then your issue lies with VC, not Telkom... and if you pickup your Telkom phone to phone overseas it is NOT voip.. its standard old school POTS.
