So, I've just bought a new apartment in Rynfield and wanted to know if it would be possible to get a phone line installed and upgraded to an DSL line.

I filled in a form on the telkom website to enquire and received a call a couple days later.

The "consultant" said "I don't know, I can't tell you if there are lines in that area, go ask the people that live there."

I mean...lol :wtf: it's no wonder why Telkom are losing so many customers. A new and eager customer wants to buy their product and they get told to bugger off.

Nothing new or to see here, move along.....

If you think opening a telkom acc is a hassle, just wait until you want to part ways...

Get a symetric wireless internet connection and a consumer Voip supplier. That way you get internet wireless and you get a voip landline (with a softphone in your computer or buy a voip handset).

Get a wireless connection. Contact Kawuleza connect.

They have decent comments on the forum, so far. (you can also have 5 days free trial).

Then you get a VOIP line from Switch Telecom.
R49.00 per month for a voip line (you can choose a geographical number or a 087 number). Your new voip line you can set it in your PC or Smartphone with free software (such as 3CX) or you can also buy a Voip Handset (a cheap voip phone is going around R500. http://www.comx-computers.co.za/GS-...phone-Information-Price-Buy-Cheap-p-61571.php )

I didn't have a problem closing my account. It was done on the exact day I stipulated.

The only weird thing is that I still receive an electronic account each month (for zero).

For the record, the Rynfield exchange is full but a planned upgrade is expected to commence this year. Don't get your hopes up about getting a new ADSL line installed in the near future. You might need to put in multiple applications over the course of a few months and hope that someone has moved out and the line becomes free...
