Right, yesterday my mother couldn't login with ADSL (while I was away), so she gave my ISP a call to see whats up, they told her that the account has been cut off as we have exceeded our 3gb limit, anyway, she purchased a new 3gb to get access again. I came home shocked to hear she'd wasted R200 on a new 3gb. I phoned the ISP, and I've just had a talk to them about it, they claim that Telkom are now implementing a cutoff with the 3gb (just like the 2gb and 4gb accounts). I told him about all the other people on their DSL still online even after exceeding their cap. They say that I've just caught it early and that the rest of the country will be the same by next month.

I am quite pissed off now to say the least, and don't know whether to blame the ISP or Telkom for it.

Is this all correct or are they giving me ***?

mate your ISP is milking you and you been screwed buy the sounds of it ps KY jelly is on special at clicks 3 for the price of 2 24.95 ...

yeah, my isp is Kingsley. Should they not provide me with further local access I'll simply move to another ISP.

After further communication with them it now seems that this decision to cut me off was due to contact they received from telkom about abuse of the service.

Are telkom/saix legally allowed to cut full access for the account?

Have Telkom ever though why 'we' make use (abuse it in other words) of the service?

*cough* cap.

Counting down...
123 days till the end of Hellkom

Well, I wont be surpised if someone ELSE abused said IP, then when the 24 hour disconnect came and the IP changed, you were swiftly blamed. Obviously they're not doing a very good job at tracking attacks and spammers that abuse this.

However, I wont be suprised if you're mom is downloading illegal porn or have been hacking into the CIA or NASA... parents are sly like that...

What was the nature of this alledged "abuse of service"?

An account which I share with a friend (not a telkom account) was capped almost 2 weeks ago and the usage stads at around 80Gig at present - and still running stong locally.

thats bad, you should never wake up a sleeping dog. Since months I am running at 5 and even more GB per month.*fg* And Telkom did nothing.

The system requirements said "Required Windows 95 or better". So, I installed Linux!

OK people, I've had same problem with 3Gb cap few weeks ago ( http://www.itweb.co.za/sections/columnists/doubletake/weidemann041027.asp ). We've got case number from SAPS ( as per TELKOM request ) and we are going to proceed with subpoena. We'll keep you updated ![:D]
