Hi,

I installed Telkom Accelerator on my Desktop but had to uninstall as p2p and anti-virus updates would not rumm beacuse of the proxy. I removed the proxy references from the browser but still I cannot connect p2p or updates the antivirus.

Where else can this proxy setting be ? Everything is fine on my Laptop, where I did not install the Accelerator.

Cheers

Hey raj, welcome to the forum :)

What internet browser are you using?
When you disabled the proxy settings, were you able to access any sites at all?

Thanks jarr.

I can access all the websites and I use Opera and IE.

okay. so you've uninstalled the accelerator, disabled the proxy settings on the browser(s), but still cannot get the anti-virus updates to work?

maybe also check if you can specify proxy settings on the anti-virus app you use? could be that you need to disable it there too. not too sure about the p2p, though... :)

I just installed Firefox and it cannot access any websites ! But Opera and IE work !!

When I test the ports on eMule it comes up with this message

Testing IP: rba-cache1-vif1.saix.net (198.54.202.226)
Starting TCP connection test...
TCP test failed! UDP test will not be performed.

when you installed Firefox, did you choose to import settings from another browser? In Firefox, click on Tools -> Options -> General -> Connection Settings. The button next to "Direct connection to the internet" should be selected (assuming you're not connecting through a proxy)

not that familiar with emule, but check if you can reset the connection settings to their default values. and if you're using any kind of firewall, that the ports emule uses, are allowed

you said it works on your laptop - maybe check to make sure that your settings for all these different programs correspond to those on the laptop.

hope some of this helps, otherwise I'm running out of ideas! ;)

Some time ago I installed MWeb's accelerator and had the same problem when I tried to uninstall it.
Eventually found the problem in the Hosts file but I can't recall exactly what the entry was though.

edit c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

jarr - The firefox settings are as you said "Direct connection" is checked. Also all the settings for the browsers on both Laptop and Pc are the same.

Though, I did take a look at the hosts file, I did not notice anything unusual. But I will check it out when I go home again.

Thanks again guys.
