Telkom Internet does not implement hard cap

Please dont say u going to TelkomInternet

No, I'd rather punch their CEO, only contact I want with them.

I need some kind of account so that i can keep playing Counter Strike Source with my clan. I dont need international access except a very small amount to log onto the Steam application and to authenticate with the Valve Anti Cheat server.

If Telkom doesnt get taken to court for this by Icasa or the competitions commision there is no hope for South Africa.

The reason DotCo is taking them to court is because ICASA is doing nothing.
I do not understand why ICASA is around because they are not protecting the consumer in any way, which from what i understand, is what they are supposed to do.

I beg to differ. One of the accounts I use is a Telkom account. I've been hammering that account for the past two days. Disconnect earlier this evening and when I reconnected, my IP was still an uncapped IP, but I couldn't surf anything...local or international. Only site I could visit is Telkom.co.za, email also dead. So I think Telkom is enforcing hardcapping on their accounts as well. I'm going to test the account tomorrow again, but I'm not very optimisitc. :(

Cheers

if it is true I see big sh$%, isps must band together.

surely they have more of a stand with ICASA now than ever.

Now that you mention this, I've been having the same problem with my Telkom account. I know for a fact that I wasn't capped (I still had about 1GB left on it). I've noticed that if I stay connected for 24hrs, get cut and reconnect again, I can not access the internet. If I disconnect wait about 5min and then connect, everything is back to normal.

Hardcapping was fairly easy for them to do. Take the IP pool that capped users got given (and shared in the same pool), and put it in single pool that only has access to the Telkom site.

I think the change required was probably about 5 minutes of router config... They already had a "hardcapping" system in place, except it allowed local access when capped. They just changed that local access to not go anywhere and voila. Done. The system has been in place for years, if you think about it.

THERE SHOULD BE NO CAP AT ALL, INTERNATIONAL AND LOCAL. PLEASE PEOPLE NEVER FORGET THIS!!

I second that with passion

Totally agree with you, People should not be throwing stuff around who hardcaps or not, there should be NONE whatsoever.

The whole shaping/capping and billing is totally absurd!
