Telkom Interview

Ok all these questions are good but the telkom spin doctors have an answer for everything.

Please do this.
Ask why adsl is so much more expensive in this country compared to the rest of the world.
You will get the standard answer of distance, undersea cables, low subscriber base etc.
Just as the smug smile is starting to cross his face hit him with a follow up along the lines of, "In that case how is it possible for adsl in Mauritious to be offered at approx R300 / month using exactually the same infrastructure as telkom does?"

He is gonna say that Mauritious is tiny compared to SA and hence doesn't need as much infrustructure... How ever also ask why international bw is so expensive, and ask what is the total utilization of their stake in the undersea cables.

Guys i will ask all these questions. thanks alot.
But the whole point of the interview is to talk about ADSL and thats sorry to say is all that i can talk about

But are they not directly related?

Then ask why is the bandwidth for ADSL so expensive?

Why adsl so so slow between IS and SAIX networks and what they doing to fix the problem? When do they think prices will drop again?

Since the SNO is going to focus on broadband ie ADSL what is Telkom doing to get their customers happy again (not many people happy with Telkom) to prevent them from moving over to the SNO?

Any future products expected soon?

The issue remains the same. If each consumer pays his portion of the infrastructure there is no difference unless the consumer has to sponsor the development of infrastructure where the cost will not be recoverable like in Telkoms case in the poor areas, loss of copper, expansion abroad (they need the cash) etc. That is exactly the point.

I suggest that you tell the audience how it is quicker and cheaper to fly to Hong Kong and download 100GB and then fly back then it is to just download 100GB here. You can see the exact calculations Here

And be sure to end off by saying:

"I certainly hope your Telkom salary is more than the value of your soul, otherwise you sir are running at a loss"
