Hi

I wander if anyone here can help.

I run a website www.powersaving.co.za. Last week I decided to change hosting providers becuase my site was going down too often. Naturally as a result of the change the site's IP address had to be updated by .CO.ZA which was done last Thursday (it changed from 160.124.109.10 to 41.204.198.9).

However almost a week after this DNS change was propogated throughout the world, Telkom's ADSL network still directs browers to the old address! So now there are two different versions of my site live! I cant shut the old site down becuase a sizeable chunk of traffic is still being directed there! I have tried phoning Telkom but the person at the other end of the line simply doesnt have the fainest clue what I am talking about. I've sent emails to their business hosting division with no replies. How do I get them to update their DNS caches like everyone else in the world?

Anybody got any contact details I could try or suggestions?

Try changing the "old" site to a redirector to the new site. You will probably need to have this until hell freezes over.... Or Telkom hires somebody who knows what they are doing. Which ever comes first. My money is on hell freezing over. :D

I still get old IP address:

Maybe the problem is in the DNS servers used. Ultra-v16, which DNS do you use?

According to my router its 196.43.45.190 and 196.43.46.190.

Just for incase, thought i'd add my gateway as well: 41.241.192.1

ask your ISP(web Africa) to chagne the Time to Live. on your dns records.for a couple of days
i would say 3hour TTL should b good enough to flash those caching dns server.

196.43.45.190 and 196.43.46.190.
those are distributed recursive caching only DNS servers. so that could be your prob rite there.

here is a list of all their recursive caching dns server..
rrba-ip-dns-3.saix.net 196.43.1.11 Rosebank Recursive Caching only DNS
wbs-ip-dns-4.saix.net 196.43.34.190 Cape Town Distributed Recursive Caching only DNS

You could try openDNS:
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220

theirs no point in changing to thous dns server, becuase it want help the reset of south africa going to his site, if they still pick up the old ip address via dns.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, especially Magneto.

The amazing thing is that after sending mails, phoning for days. One posting on this site and the issue magically rectifies itself!

Makes you think - well maybe not.

Anyway thanks again.

your DNS on the old site is still active, have it removed.

Sorry for bringing up this old topic...

Would just like to know how the problem was solved...

For some reason we do not receive certain emails.

We also changed hosts. On calling the old host, they see that the MX entry for our domain is sitting with them. But others see that its sitting with the new host. How do i solve the problem.

first whats your domain name???
then we can find out who is holding your domain records..
take it from their,.
