Telkom, IS clash over VANS licences

He told the Independent Communications Authority of SA (ICASA) that Telkom contests the idea that VANS be allowed to set themselves up as full-blown infrastructure providers; rather, the determinations simply allow them to use alternative infrastructure providers.

Mobile operator Vodacom stood behind Telkom during its submission to the authority, claiming it believes the ministerial determinations do not amend the Telecommunications Act or alter the market structure.

My my ... look at what a 50% share in a company can buy you ;)

The genius who let Telkom buy 50% of Vodacom should be necklaced.

A VANS may not be a full blown Telecoms service provider.
What about the poor SNO that has been promised the position?
I say - Open the industry WIDE open. Stop with this regulatory crap. But - not going to happen.

Telkom will always act in their best interests.

The point is that the government are allowing Telkom to rape and pillage at will.

I guess when the forrmer director of the DOC gets a cushy possition at Telkom less than a year after leaving office it's pointless to bitch and moan ... the relationship between Telkom and the government is crystal clear.

The government holds all the cards and they will play them as they see fit.

Sorry I actually had a point.Doesnt it strike you odd that Telkom is only making a fuss *now* 1 week before the supposed liberalization. Seems like a desperate move to me.
 
I think they are sitting back on their big leather couches with their feet up. Nothing is gonna touch Telkom anytime soon.

That's not the way I interpret it, and with Telkomonopoly trying to spill the life-blood of VANS on the waters I agree that Telkom & its minion Vodacon are trying to play a magician's trick on ICASA.

Firstly, we all know there is no SNO, it is poison Ivy's delaying tactic, the SNO will not be any one company, it should be a group of VANS that finance their own infrastructure & give Telkomonopoly a boot up the backside. Having said that, I foresee some other competition-based problems [other than the evil-Spectre organisation that Telkomonopoly fears so much] if ICASA doesn't do its job of regulating.

I tell ya, when I can actually sign up for other telecom services and I phone telkom and cancel my accounts with them will be a sweeeeeet day indeed.
