My telephone line went completely dead when I was at work on Monday, when I called my number, it's now crossed to someone else's physical line and connected to a fax machine. I am still waiting for them to come and repair this fault!!!! And I am not going to pay for other people's usage with my number.

I have been having the same problem with my ADSL for about a month and a half. I have a 4mb line and get download speeds of no more than 180kb/s. On top of this, when pinging a website, the time it takes to ping is no less than 120ms which, for a 4meg line, is extremely slow. (I ping www.saix.co.za with my saix adsl account) browsing extremely slow or it just doesn't work and times out...
The technicians have cleared my fault at least 4 times, making me phone the ADSL tech center and holding for 25 minutes because the call back feature doesn't work. Most of the tech people i speak to over the phone have no idea what they are talking about half the time, so trying to explain that my line is running slowly takes another 25-30 minutes. During this call, they do things like change my line speed, reset my port at the exchange, tell me to reset my router, and so on, just to then tell me "Ok sir, i will mark your fault as urgent"...... My father knows the guy who is the manager or whatever of the exchange but all he tells him is that they are working on it.
About 2 weeks ago i went to the exchange, armed with my trusty laptop. I was asked to go by a tech guy to test the exchange (Yes, it is the exchange that is slow). The technician that took me there seemed to know what he was doing, and while talking to the oke, he explained that this exchange is an utter nightmare to work on. All the technicians at the local office hate working on it as it is constantly giving trouble. He had said that it was probably built in a hurry and the technicians that built it probably didnt know what they were doing.
And now, as the month progresses, i have yet to hear from one of the technicians working day to day on the exchange, even though they repeatedly told me "The technicians will call you next time they are at the site". Dont we all <3 telkom ??
