Did anybody get a notice from telkom that if you exceed your local bandwidth that they gonna charge you R25 for each extra gig downloaded??

I don't mind but the problem is that my brother only saw the notice after i was capped and on the last day of the month. Also, when i ordered adsl, the operators never stated anything about this.

This is so weak.

There've been a lot of threads on this...

They only charge you extra per gig once you exceed the local bandwidth already allocated to you - 10GB local for every 1GB international.

So if you have a 3GB account, you still have 30GB local to burn through for free until they start charging you extra.

Don't worry about your original 3GB cap. That's still hard-capped, although as always they're slightly more lax with it than other ISPs...

It has not happened yet and I doubt very much whether it will happen. One would need some kind of notification that you are over the limit, Telkom cannot just bill...no matter how nasty Telkom can be. I feel people are panicking for nothing.

I also don't think this is going to stick so well. Telkom were the ones to introduce the hard cap... the onus is on them to actually cap you when you reach your threshold. They can't tell you you are only limited to 3Gb and then we cut you off... and oh by the way, if we don't cut you off and you use more you have to pay for that as well. I think the first complaint that ICASA gets about this ... that policy will be struck down very quickly. They can't charge you for something that they were supposed to enforce.

i notice that telkom's bandwidth monitor site, states that as of 1st feb, but that notification has only come on, since 29th feb...

Now, there's something that they are trying to put proof of warning and back dating, i wonder if we cann dispute it??? if asked to pay...

Yes for local only. Its a robbery. Yes the sales consultand didn't tell me when I purchassed my account over the phone. But Lucky 4 me I knew about it. But what about the people that didnt know. Isint it false info provided by telkom? I mean the first thing they told me was its a 1GB account and a free 10GB ocal after. Nothing about R25 per GB after your 10GB. Its false info and very poor sales reps!

i would refuse to pay ... does it state this in writing anywhere ? Terms and Conditions ?

Has anyone actually gone over and being charged????

ICASA is the one that told them that local must not be subject to the cap. :o

Telkom can also change their terms and conditions at will (its part of their terms and conditions).
