Appraently if I sign a 3 year contract with Telkom I get a lap top for free which is worth +- R6000. The only bummer is the 3 year contract. What do you guys think?

Well the thing is what stopped me right in my tacks is a friend had to send his in for repair. I just wanted to know what u guys think thats all

do not lock yourself into anything for 3 yrs

new telcom company opening in march

im going to put this as mildly as i can and plz dont take offence

YOU WOULD BE A COMPLETE IDIOT TO TAKE UP THIS OFFER

What kinda lappy is it? If it's an HP, read my post on the "Processors" thread.

Either ways, take month to month, buy Netgear/Linksys/Billion router and get an ACER notebook. Finance that if you really have to.

You'll get to keep your soul :-)

Yeah... listen to everyone and koffie.

And for the Telkom deal? Nononononononononononononononononononono.

One word: DONTDOIT

Hey, Debbie2, didn't expect to see you in General Hardware & Software? :)

Saffer, hardware changes rapidly in one year, what is fast now, is slow in two months' time.

Now, you get this laptop from Geldbom and tied into a three year contract - in six months/one year's time that laptop will be outdated.

But then you've still got two years to go on your contract (especially with Telkom!!)- c what we are all trying to tell u?

Bottom line - PLEASE DON'T DO IT!!!

Have you got a url for that? The one I found on telkoms website painted a different picture - http://www.telkom.co.za/common/pcbundle/toshibanotebook.html.

R1006.06 pm over 36 Months for

HomeDSL 1024kb - usual monthly cost of r516
DSL modem included - is there a country besides SA where they dont give these away?
TelkomInternet - 2 Gig Standard - r199.00
Telkom CLOSER Budget Calling Plan2 - r145

That adds up to R860 - the difference is about r150 for 36 months r5400

Now here's the rub - what do you think is going to happen when adsl rates fall? For you, probably nothing until those 36 months are up.

Dont do it.

Trust me when my paster did it and he had to send the lap top in for repair about 3 weeks ago, I decided not to. As soon as my mum saw the deal she decided against it.
