I ran through a few of the threads and couldn't see anything related to my query.

About 2-3 weeks ago I phoned up telkom and ordered a line from them, I was told that it should take about 21days from placing the order to getting the line installed, unless ofcourse there's something wrong or if they are busy with a project.

So I phoned them a couple of days later to check up on the status and to ensure that the installation will still take place in the given period. I was told that there was a problem with the system and that I should phone back again later...2hours later I give it another go an am told that they are currently busy with a DSLAM project in my area and taht the earliest installation date will only be in July.

I do not want to wait until July just to have internet, so seeing as I only have a reference number and a 3 month waiting period before anything will happen, could I cancel the installation and rather go iBurst or will this invoke penalty charges for canceling?

Did you sign up for a contract with them?
I think they have to install within 30 days or something like that.

If not a contract, you should be able to cancel it at your leisure.
Other peeps here will hopefully drop by and give a more informed answer, but initially I think it would not be a hassle.

To go with iBurst, may be a hassle though ;)

I agree if u didnt sign anything they cant hold u to it also remember that iburst is good but needs to be close to a tower for best results ...i know of people in somerset west (cape town) using iburst but the closest tower is @ the other end of gordons bay (like 20-25km's away)...so beware coz although u will get connection speeds will be poor if ur not close and also the weather plays a big part with iburst aswell

Nah, you can just cancel the order. I did the same thing. Just moved into a new place at the beginning of March. Ordered a Telkom line. Phoned back later and was told that there is no infrastructure in my area. So I checked Neotel, found coverage, ordered Neotel and cancelled my Telkom order, no questions asked.

With Telkom, you may cancel at your leisure, but whether anything actually gets cancelled is another matter entirely.
