So I recently moved into a complex in Fourways, JHB. I called Telkom to come install a line and they sent a technician. The technician opens a panel inside the house I'm renting, takes one look and says: "Sorry there is no Telkom line here. You need to call an Electrician to run cable from your house to the Complex's wiring cabinet".
So I call an Electrician to come run a cable through the empty conduit and it turns out the conduit is blocked. Then the Electrician (who is recommended by the body corporate) opens a second electrical panel located about 30cm from the first and voila! he's found the "Telkom" cable. R900 later..
So I call Telkom again. The techie arrives and immediately informs me. This is not a Telkom cable but is in fact the (unused) Complex Intercom cabling.
To add to the complexity of all this. My complex is connected to two separate exchanges. The top half is on one exchange and the bottom half (where I stay) is on another and Telkom have reserved a phone number for me on the wrong exchange!
Seriously.. why does this have to be so difficult?
