Telkom line speeds

DSL512 upgraded to DSL1024 at R362.00 per month
DSL1024 upgraded to DSL4096 at R516.00 per month
But had no idea on the DSL192 or DSL384 prices.

I think it's got to do with the Triple Play systems that they will be marketing soon.

What is this triple play about which you speak?
 
I read somewhere last year that Telkom were going to "try this out with 500 selected customers" - seems to be something to do with a new broadband service called triple play, which includes Internet, music and video-on-demand using content servers - I also saw something about GTS (Goal Technology Solutions) possibly bringing in some competition to Telkom with their 90Mbps triple play concept via an ordinary wall power socket - uses PLC (power-line communication) to bring a triple play offering of broadband internet access, voice telephony and television programming directly into the home via an established electrical connection.

Sounds great if it works, although I think Telkom needs to address the current broadband issues and reliability before embarking on a "new concept" to rip the public off... I think my electricity goes off more than my IS connection lately, so this type of access would be dead before it started...
 
GTS is the greatest company never to have started.

I would love to have 512 speeds for free, but i would hate for it to only be avalible at one in the morning.
How the hell will helkoms lines put up with the strain? Did they replace them with fiber yet?
Im an uber noob in the whole technical side of the interwebs...

Thats everybodies wish but sadly its inpossible!!
Don't have a clue about the fibre used but the fact that there will be a strain on the lines is unavoidable...
Sad but true...

...meant 35kB/s...always get the kb and kB wrong...
There's definitely something wrong, but no-one can seem to sort it out - I even had the cable from the outside connection to the property re-done (as well as the interior cabling)
- my distance is approx. 1.2km
 
1.2km, that's very good (you should get excellent ADSL2+ speeds +-20Mbps)

That's not a proper service man! I would be annoyed.

Oh well, hope Neotel sets you up with a proper connection.

I've got a 384 line, but since December last year my line speed drops a lot during after hours. This weekend was the worst, I did a test (on games.saix.net) and it showed that I've got a line speed of 15.90kbps with an average of 1.99KB/sec download.

It's getting worse ever month. I think telkom cannot handle the load in my area.

I must say, tonight the ADSL is very fast. Not sure if Telkom made some changes, but nobody from Telkom phoned me. I guess I musn't get to happy, come Friday it's back to snail speed.
