Telkom LTE Issue

Howzit guys,

I got a Telkom LTE 30gb + 30gb deal in June. Initially all was well, got over 8mbps down, line was stable etc, no drops.

It's slowly degraded to the point where I'm lucky if it breaches 1mbps. It drops every 5 min too.

I'm using the Huawei B315s router, with Telkom.

Suggestions please??

They might have "optimised" the site i.e. tilted or panned the antennas. I suggest getting a X-Pol Poynting external antenna and pointing it at the tower.

Of coarse the other reason could be congestion, for which the only solution is to report the problem to Telkom

You can also try and switch bands. It could be that you are on 1800MHz band instead of the usually faster 2300MHz band. If that is the case you can use the toolbox to change between bands.

I used the Toolbox but couldn't find an option for 2300MHz. How do you force that band?

Okay when changing bands this is the only value we are focusing on.

4 = 1800MHz
8000000000 = 2300MHz

Change that value marked with a red block to the value corrosponding with the band and click on write directly to API and when prompted click yes.

Done you can switch between bands and see how it works for you. I switch frequently when gaming and downloading. No router restart is required when using the tool to switch.

Thanks :) So 2300MHz is better for downloading? And 1800MHz is better for gaming?

For me yes. The latency on 1800MHz is much lower and stabler but speed wise 2300Mhz is still king simply because Telkom has much more spectrum available in that band.

This is what I have picked up for me so I'm not sure if it would be the same for you but switching between bands is pretty simple and you can test it out and see what works for you.

Thanks man, and just test from Ookla as to which is faster? I actually am running it on 1800MHz and I'm fine with just keeping it on that if it's more stable.

Yeah just do speedtests and see which one gives you the best speed. 1800MHz is also used by phones for LTE so depending on how many LTE phone users in your area could also affect speeds since there is limited spectrum in that band.

That said the 2300MHz is likely to have more high capped and uncapped LTE users on it so it would really vary and you can test which works best for you. ;)

Thanks again, appreciate it :)
