So I order my LTE Uncapped from Telkom last week and they shipped me a Huawei e5186.
My workmate who lives 2 block from me order on the same day and got a Huawei B315.(his got delivered a week later than mine) I ordered online because I was told in-store they couldn't do it and he ordered over the phone.

Now I am annoyed because he has a Huawei router that comes with paddle antennas(bunny ears) and a battery, where as mine does not.
He's only a little closer to the tower and is getting 20+ mb while poor antenna-less me is struggling to hit 8mb.
Telkom said they would send a tech to install an external antenna but who knows when that will happen, i just want bunny ears. ;(

Why does Telkom do this?

Your router is suposidly an LTE-A router. You should be able to get an antenna for it from Poyntin, and install it yourself as well. Just send their sales team an email, and ask them what they would suggest for the router.

Tx so the B315 is just LTE? So my E5186 is a Ferrari just puttering down the highway. :D

Think I need some thing like the A-XPOL-006-10M External Anttena. The only problem is if I get an antenna from Poynting I have to pay for it.

Get the XPOL-006 but reduce the 10m cable to 5m if you can.

I ordered online and got the B315 with the battery which is very nice since you can use it like a UPS for the router :)

What does the battery look like, is it pArt of the power supply, or inside the router

I don't think you should complain about your router as you got a LTE-A router which is slightly more expensive than the B315 and supports LTE and LTE-A which the B315 does not support.

You need to fight with Telkom and ask them to ship you your free antenna that comes with the deal.

Email this guy. xxxxxx@telkom.co.za He can sort you out.

I also did not get the B315 that has a battery. A bit disappointing :crying:

Thanks I'll do that, although telkom did say they don't ship antenna's anymore but I can't see how not when you have to supply a certain level of service.

No battery for me either.
opps I've start something now. :D

If it's on a pole 5 m is not a lot to play with.

Option 1. I suppose I could setup my router and a switch, up in the ceiling, that way I don't have to run more network cables around my house. Just chop and terminate the cables already in the ceiling.

Option 2. I would have to drill a whole in to the kitchen wall and have to router setup on the top of a cupboard then link it to my old ASDL router to provide wifi to the rest of the house.

So much to play with. :) I like fiddling . Well we will have to see what happen once the antenna goes up.

Picked up a B315 at Telkom Kolonade Retail park for R1399 including the current 1gig once off and 100mb per month for 12 months. In box was the backup battery, no additional antenna other than the bunny ears.
