I know this may be old news to some of you, but others may not know this..

If someone from "Telkom" pitch up on your premises, just make sure that they really are Telkom staff...

One of our client's had an issue with two guys (who had uniforms, letters, tools & whathaveyou...) who told them they are from Telkom and in an effort to enhance their service, Telkom is checking up on all the existing lines (and to fix whats not right).

After they left, nothing had been done, except a laptop and cellphones were gone...

Just make sure they are really from Telkom... ;)

(I would still recommend keeping an eye on them, always!) :D

lmao .. "the power of imagination" .. good one

Well i found a way to get telkom to do something for free. Needed my exisiting line redone underground as was an awful sight on our balcony. So went to Telkom office and said it plain and clearly, we have 1xTelkom pole on our property that connects probably the entire neighbourhood, we let in telkom guys at least once a day, so you redo my line, move it underground or i use my chainsaw and cut down your f'n pole. Well what do you know, they even supplied the piping for free ;)

Well I geuss this is a great way to burgal, cause you can be shure that almost every house you hit has some problem or reason to let Telkom in. People will be amazed that they actually sent anyone round to fix something. The criminals would be forced into my house and have to explain why hte hell they cut off my phone line this month on the day they sent the bill..

Jip. They probably were Telkom employees. We can sort of expect that... You can never trust Telkom - not even when they want to help, lol

If it were imposters, shame on Telkom for not keeping control over their uniforms...

All telkom technicians have ID's on them and have to show them when requested... also each techie has to update with telkom where they are, what they are doing and how long they will take, for monitoring purposes. If they cant show u ID, its your own fault if you let them in and something goes missing..

Here are things u can check for: If they ur permenant staff their ID cards would be blue have a picture of them on it as well as they signature and obviously that beautiful Telkom logo, check the back to it should hav a series of number in the right hand corner to allow them access to Telkom buildings. Hope this helps ooh yes if the temps the card will be yellow.

Check this out...From yesterday's Daily News in Durban

Well done, cops
Miranda Andrew

'I'm absolutely blessed . . . My guardian angels came to our rescue." An eThekwini businessman, Tom Visser, cannot speak highly enough of the quick action of an undercover police unit that saved his family and home yesterday.

The Athlone Park, Amanzimtoti, family were the alleged planned victims of three armed robbers posing as municipal and Telkom employees. Instead, in what is seen as a breakthrough against this type of crime, the alleged criminals were arrested.

Victims throughout Durban have reported being held up by robbers posing as council or Telkom staff and police have issued several warnings, advising residents not to let anyone on to their properties without first checking that they are genuine council or Telkom employees.

Visser, an Amanzimtoti businessman, said the alleged robbery attempt took place at about 9am after he and his wife and his two older children had left for work.

Still at home were two teenage sons, two housemates and the family's gardener.

At about this time, the three gunmen turned up at their front gate wearing their disguises.

But, before the gang could make a move, their operation was foiled by undercover police officers from the Serious and Violent Crimes Unit who had been keeping the house under observation.

Supt Willie Olivier said they knew the gang was going to strike at that specific home because they received a tip-off from one of their informers earlier.

He said members belonging to their Operation Greed Unit planned a stakeout at the home. The officers started their observation from 7am and two hours later, three suspects arrived.

"Two suspects were wearing blue municipal overalls, while the third suspect had arrived in a Telkom jacket," said Olivier.

"The officers caught them and upon doing a body search found three 9mm pistols," said Olivier.

The suspects were immediately arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. Olivier warned that residents need to be wary of syndicates operating in the area using these tactics.

"We have dealt with several cases like this where robbers pretend to be workers to gain access into homes," he said.

"When someone approaches you dressed like this, don't allow them in your home until you have checked properly with the relevant department," he warned.

Visser said he was "really impressed with the police service".

"I've heard of so many cases where the police have been lambasted for not doing their job . . . but I've had personal experience of the complete opposite," said Visser.

"I was astounded at how efficient they were. They caught the gang before they could even get through my gate . . . and that's better than any security system you could ever buy," he said.

Visser said he owed his family's lives to the police because any kind of harm could have come to his two sons, his housemates and his gardener. "And I was not even there," he said. "I'm absolutely blessed that my guardian angels came to our rescue," he said.

The three suspects are expected to appear at the Amanzimtoti Magistrate's Court today.

Yeay! Im glad they got caught...

I think I will stick to my posting I made earlier in this thread... I will keep every techie under close observation with my gun ... just in case :D LOL

they were there "in an effort to improve their service" - that should already have sent the alarm bells ringing....
