Two weeks ago my modem stopped connecting to my ISP automatically. I can still manually connect.

When I go into the modem settings "Automatic Reconnect" is un-ticked. I have ticked the box numerous times and saved but when I go back in it is un-ticked again.

Help!

Tick "Automatic Reconnect". Click "Submit". Go to left hand menu. Click on "save settings / reboot". Click on "Save and Reboot".

Ensure "Disconnect Timeout" is set to "0".

And ensure you have the right pvc under "change adapter". The one with your isp details on. Usually "0".

Ok, I must have missed one step or something.

Now the setting are there with automatic connect (ticked), yet it does not connect.

What else could be wrong? What should all the settings be?

This is my setup which works for me with bridge enabled.

This is the WAN settings, right?
My Encapsulation is 1483 Bridged IP LLC
and
Static IP is filled in (not zero's)
Subnet mask is filled in (not zero's)

I use multiple accounts, so I need the modem in half-bridge mode. If you only have the one account, fill in your username and password in the boxes, and set the rest up according to the pic I posted - should work.

For multiple accounts, set up the one you want the router to connect to like the 1st pic I posted. That's pvc 0 under wan.

Then set up pvc 1 like this pic:

You will then have the modem maintaining a connection with the account embedded on it, and you will have "dial-up" pppoe enabled (bridge mode) as well, so you can make a pppoe connection from windows. Ensure you keep clicking on save settings and then always going to "save & reboot" with each config change.

Herewith someone else's explanation that I saved long ago:

"In short, our default connection is routed by the Marconi, and I can dial a second PPPoE connection from any PC on the network.

Just in case anyone is wondering the setup is as follows now:

Pvc0
Virtual Circuit - Enabled
Bridge - Enabled (!!!! Without this, it seems you cannot dial a PPPoE connection from a PC)
IGMP - Disabled
Encapsulation - PPPoE LLC
Username and password of default account entered.

Pvc1
Virtual Circuit - Enabled
Bridge - Enabled
IGMP - Disabled
Encapsulation - 1483 Bridged IP LLC
Username and password left blank"

Hope you come right... :)

If you hard reset your router and then run the wizard, that will be the easiest way to configure it .
I do find that the Marconi are one of the most annoying routers out there but in there defense there security is pretty good.

That is one of the crappiest routers I've ever seen...

The two or three which I've played around with, absolutely refused to go into bridged mode. :/

They're bridged by default :). The "hard" bit is trying to get an account onto them...
