hi,

Is half bridge possible with the telkom mega100wr.

I have four pc's, i would like three of them to use a single 2g telkom international account, and i want one of them to be able to manually dial a local 30g is account.

I would like to avoid having to go the routesentry route as only one of the pc's needs access to local bandwidth.

would this be possible.

thanks in advance

good news

Good news, I seem to have worked it out.

Im not sure if this would actually qualify as a halfbridge setup, but during my fiddling with the various settings, i have been able to get the three pc's permanently connected with the router (no dialing), while still giving the forth pc the ability to dial which obviously gets routesentry into the picture for that pc.

I started by simply creating a normal quickstart connection, and then a second connection which i set as bridge mode. i tried this initially, but found that only one of the connections could be on at one time. Eg, routesentry would dial fine through the bridge connection, but only if the quickstart connection was not connected, if it was connected it would freeze during dialing the user name and password. The fix for this is to leave the vpi/vci of the second bridge connection empty, or 0/0. The quickstart connection must be the usual 8/35.

Also, it only seems to work when the quickstart connection is not set to sharing. I also ticked default gateway

What all this means essentially, is that all the pc's in the house use a telkom 2g int account. But one of them has the ability to dial a (30g is local) at the same time for news server stuff.

hope this works for those who want the same setup

I had suspicions it might require setting up a second pppoe connection in bridge mode. i would have never figured out the vpi/vci bit though.

so when you do a traceroute (to news.is.co.za) from the one connected from a pppoe on the computer, it goes to the router (10.0.0.2) than to a 196.xxx.xxx.xxx address?

It always seemed to me it would be strange if half bridge could not be achieved

For some reason it can't display the first hop, but then proceeds as normal until it gets to news.is.co.za.

Tracing route to newz.isnet.net [196.26.208.123]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 * * * Request timed out.
2 43 ms 42 ms 43 ms 196.38.73.181
3 43 ms 46 ms 44 ms 196.38.73.142
4 43 ms 41 ms 43 ms 196.38.73.137
5 45 ms 41 ms 44 ms 196.26.96.203
6 43 ms 42 ms 43 ms crsm2a-rba-vl1.rtr.isnet.net [196.26.0.12]
7 45 ms 46 ms 43 ms news.is.co.za [196.26.208.123]

Ive been checking that data usage on the various accounts and it is definitely working.
