It would be an idea to sack the entire board of Telkom and deliver them either into the hands of the people or the asset forfeiture unit
And as for this
Lulu Letlape, the Telkom spokesperson, said: "Since April 1997 to March 2005, Telkom has invested R53,7 billion in network expansion and modernisation, funded from revenues and loans from the capital market, not from government."
One wonders how much they paid for the stupid software that monitors your cap... or even this gem
US company Telcordia Technologies are busy suing them for about R 800 Million
They are appealing the competition board fine for 300 Million
But pales in comparison with yet another monopoly SAA
Mr Andrews earned over R232 Million in less than three years. Payments to consultants were R243 Million. The biggest of which was linked to... Mr Andrews. R118 million was paid to expatriates whom Andrews appointed. And there was mention of an e-commerce thing that cost over 100 Million before it was scraped
It was said that SAA made a profit of R 289 in the year 2000 - but when these figures were audited cracks started to appear, and it was reported as a 100 Million loss. Mind you when you consider the R 600 Million paid out to Andrews and Co... it could say turnover was up.
Funny thing about SAA - it used to cost about R 1 200 for a single airfare locally, bit pricey compared to a trip to London, now that there are other operators doing routes I can fly for R 390 - Sound Familiar?
Isn't this what Telkom does with Local calls... I have a feeling that if people knew the true cost of local calls they would be very cross.
SAA are in a bit of trouble right now, they are being sued by the ex-directors of Sun Air for 97 Million, Camair sued them for 346 Million which was settled for an un-disclosed amount, and the competition board recommend a fine of R 100 Million (could have been 200) - They claimed that things were bad and jobs might be lost, and got away with a reduced fine, then reported that they had in fact made a record profit for last year, which was the cause of the Unions striking a little while back.... and now the cheek of it all they are now requesting that the fine should be scraped
