Almost trapped in Call Centre incompetence:

I tried to order an ADSL line for a client.

All the client's current lines are analog but run through a PABX.

The requirement for ADSL is a SINGLE line not going through a PABX.

I was told by the call centre when I tried to order the line, that it would cost another R268.98 for a new line with no other monthly rental except the R800 for ADSL.

of course, Telkom is not prepared to give this in writing.

Fortunately I called the lady assisting us with our PABX. She told me straight that there is nothing like a free line regarding the monthly rental. If I trusted the idiot at the ordering centre, I would have had to pay another R88 per month.

Please mr White, educate your staff!

It's a pity Telkom doesn't record their support calls like banks usually do. Then all you need to do is give the support person's name, time of call and demand that you hold them to their word.

It is absolutely shocking that you have to call and speak to 2 or 3 people before you can get the correct information. Does Telkom not train their staff? According to the Telkom technicians I spoke to, no they don't. It's quite ridiculous.

I got an extra tel line with my ADSL - with it's own number and everything. I didn't want it, but I still got it.

OK fine - I know that it "shares" the same physical wiring etc. - but it's useless - I can't use it because if I pick up the phone - it kicks my ADSL. If the phone rings it kicks my ADSL - what use is that?

Hi cubehre,

It looks like your line is missing an ADSL filter. Because i had a similar problem whenever u pick up the phone the internet disconnects.

Call Telkom and explain your problem, hope they can sort it out for you!

Thats actually kinda strange...a few years back when I called telkom out to repair my line i got a pre-recorded message that siad 'Please note your call maybe recorded for training purposes' or something along those lines. I wonder why they stopped??

Re dojobs' and cubehres' posts; I had the complete opposite problem - I had to have the phone off the hook for my adsl to sync. As soon as I replaced the handset - dead.

Turns out it was the ADSL filters. Once they were replaced, no problems - just the noise of the router "handshaking" or whatever it does in the background.

Re kaspaas' post, I completely agree, you get different stories the more people you speak to - so much for the call centre response list that so many companies have :)

Talking about the telkom call center, what ever happend to the phrase:

"How may I provide you with excellent service today?"

I geuss they got sick of the obvious answers from ADSL users.

Cheers
Chris

Actually I hated when they answered the call like that. It was such a false statement/question that it was actually funny.
