Telkom Mobile a complete dissappointment

First couple of months with Telkom Mobile was pure bliss. Then the network coverage crap started. I gave them the benefit of the doubt as I experienced good service up until now.... I have now moved to Heuweloord, Centurion +/-7 km from where I used to stay in The Reeds and have NO telkom internet coverage. This is now effecting my business as I can not place orders to suppliers. (Just have to mention that the last couple of months Telkom coverage was a nightmare) When I phoned Telkom they said I should of phoned them before I moved to check for coverage and that I need to pay over R2000 to cancel not to mention that they treat you like dirt in the call centers and that no staff member can explain the cancellation process and simply says that the system decides....clever system (Not).

Telkom is unable to deliver a service to me which is breach of contract. I would understand no service if I moved to De Aar or in the mountains of KZN but centurion, pretoria? I refuse to pay such a hefty penalty as cancelling is my only option. I was considering getting a Telkom ADSL service but after being treated in this manner .... no thanks.

I will be cancelling my debit order for Telkom Mobile and hereby request Telkom Mobile to contact me to action cancellation formally. Should I not receive any action with in this week, I will formally lay a complaint with ICASA to further investigate and assist with this grievance. Time is money in my case and will not allow Telkom to cost me any more money without delivering.

Very dissappointed,
Mrs. Erasmus

lol,

ANY SP/ISP will tell you call or 3g related, you do need to check coverage. It is not their responsability to check with you IF you MIGHT be moving during the course of the 24 month contract BEFORE you sign.

Lfe happens, and now that you have moved to a signal-less area it is YOUR problem.

Why not find someone in a "signaled" area to take over the remainder of your contract.

Mevrou Erasmus,

Why don't you just roam on MTN and your calls will be fine, or is it specifically data?

So sorry to hear about your experience, but I normally take my phone/laptop/router to any place I intend to buy/rent, and first check if I can get reception with everything.....sounds like you did the opposite.

And welcome to MyBB! :)

Welcome to the forum.

Have you looked at alternative methods to get internet access at your premises - example installing an antenna would help to get signal

I recently moved all our phones to Telkom Mobile. I'm in an area with no TM coverage whatsoever, so the phones roam on MTN. No problems. All works fine, as expected.

Mrs. Erasmus: You can't blame Telkom for your failure to check whether there is network coverage in your area. They are not under an obligation to provide network wherever you happen to find yourself, and such an expectation is manifestly unreasonable and unjust. Life improves dramatically when you start taking responsibility for your own decisions. Otherwise you remain a victim all you life.

You can try 2 things:

Buy an "All Networks" data bundle on your existing SIM and this will then roam on MTN, so you should get internet then. You can do this by dialing *180# and choosing buy bundles.

Buy an antenna from Poynting which could boost your signal. Can you get signal outside your house? Maybe you are trying it in a deadspot inside. I know I have deadspots in my house in certain rooms.

I wouldn't recommend cancelling debit orders as this can have legal/financial implications.

Build this ''home made'' external aerial...http://www.wikarekare.org/Antenna/bicircle.html ...8ta/Telkom,MTN,Vodacom...2.100Ghz...
Cell C 0.900Ghz ...expect 4/5 times speed download increase. Also ''Rssi''(1or 2 line signal strength to 4/5 line signal on phone or router...Have tested on Telkom ,Vodacom and neotel CDMA speed went from 2/300kbps to 1.2Mhz download speed. Telkom 2/4mhz to 12/15 Mhz download speed on Huawei B683 router.
