Telkom Mobile Coverage is Pathetic.

I have travelled from Pretoria down to Cape Town, and my experience of TM's coverage has been very bad. Only in a few big cities have I had coverage, but even in parts of Cape Town the signal often disappears completely.

I am using my Note 3 N9005

And yet, when I view their coverage page, it says I should have coverage. I am sitting in Vredendal now, and there is absolutely no coverage. My Note 3 says "Selected network (TelkomSA) unavailable", or "Not registered on network" when I try and dial a number. Notice that on their coverage map, they say there is 3G coverage for Vredendal. :wtf:

I heard a TM agent say that TM piggy back's on MTN. However this cannot be true, because if I force it onto MTN by changing the network, then it shows full HSPA+ signal, yet no throughput and TM sends an SMS saying "Your internet access has been paused because you are usin gOut of Bundle Data". :wtf::wtf::confused:

In summary, very disappointed with this network, and it only works well enough if you are in the city, but even then, there can be absolute dead spots.

You need to purchase an all network data bundle if you will be roaming in rural areas.

Remember, Telkom Mobile does not do the OOB Shark. Which I do love and appreciate.

Also, make sure on your Network Operators tab it's set to "Automatically Select" and that data roaming is enabled.

I travel a lot to the West Coast (where there is no Telkom Mobile reception) and it seamlessly roams on MTN's network.

I have been on Telkom Mobile for just over a year now. Where there is no Telkom Mobile coverage my phone switches flawlessly to MTN and back (You need to make sure your device is set on Automatic selection and not force a selection to MTN or TM). Your SMS is because you don't have any ALL NETWORK data which allows data to roam between Telkom Mobile and MTN networks. Telkom Mobile Data will not roam and is only available when on TM's network and hence the cheaper cost.

Agree with kingrob

I moved to TM from CellC and have had almost no issues since moving over. Seamless switching (if set) on your phone comes in handy. I'd suggest getting an All Network data bundle if you travel quite a bit.

Absolute dead spots in the middle of a big city is quite common on all networks. Like others have suggested enable roaming and you should seamlessly connect to MTN when there is no TM coverage.

Now look at your All Network data and then Telkom Network data....All Network = MTN & Telkom Mobile.
