Telkom Mobile Free Airtime - How to?

I've just bought airtime for the first time in about 10 years so I am a bit of a noob to prepaid (but yay no more contracts)

I've still got hundreds of minutes carried over from my contract that will last till about July when they expire.

I opted to buy a FreeMe bundle as its only data I need. I bought R200 airtime and then converted to a 3gb bundle. I got a notification that i now have R200 free airtime. On the app the free airtime reflects, but it isn't in my balance when I dial *188#.

Does anyone know how one can use this "free airtime" to buy more data?

I'm also using Telkom Mobile.

You can use the free airtime to call other networks, SMS & Out-of-bundle data.

You cannot buy data with the free airtime.

The balance of the free airtime will be sent as an SMS after dialling *188#.

The free airtime is valid for 7 days from time of recharge.
