So if I understand it all correctly

Telkom to MTN normal call charge R 1.89 per minute
MTN to MTN on Anytime 100 R 2.30 per minute.

Does not compute...

:eek: MTN Zone pre-paid is R2.50 and that's before the discount which can be up to 95% depending on the time of day and your location.

Where's the discount for customers who commit to a 2 year contract?

MTN Zone is available to all contract subscribers since the introduction of the Anytime contracts. Legacy contracts should apply for a migration or wait for expiration. I'm not sure if the SPs try to lock in subscribers for their own reasons.

MTN Zone = equal discount for all subscriber types up to 95%. Are you asking for extra discount just for contract subscribers on top of the dynamic discount?

As far as I know MTN Zone only applies to MTN Prepaid and Topup subscribers! :confused:

Yes please, otherwise what is the incentive for signing a contract?

I've never been able to get my head around these new Anytime contracts. I have Rands, and I want to exchange them for minutes, SMS and data bundles, yet MTN want to give me Rands instead. :confused: Is MTN a telecommunications company or a bank?

Anytime is MTN's new contract package. It is provisioned using the prepaid platform which allows it to access all the stuff previously possible only on prepaid.

The idea is that where you were previously bound to separate limits: one for voice minutes, one for SMS, one for data; now you can use your total value as you see fit. So if you do not make many voice calls in that month, you can now use the spare value for data.

OK, so e.g. 50% off on the 95% off is another 6.25c off per minute from 12.5c per minute :erm:

But seriously - the incentive is tariffs that are fixed at lower per minute costs than prepaid (CPS), more discounts for higher usage, and the "free" phone.

Yes, the phone cost is included in the contract price, but the total price is still lower than prepaid without a phone.

Basic rate on MTN Zone is R2.50 per minute. The network keeps records of how much traffic is on a particular site. When there is a very low usage of that site, the rate is dropped to as low as 12.5c per minute to encourage utilisation of network capacity. If more people phone during these periods, they won't hog capacity at peak times.

For a subscriber to achieve this rate, they should monitor the cell broadcast updates on their phones at different times and locations. 95% is not guaranteed everywhere and is the maximum rate in underutilised areas. But you should get at least 40% quite regularly.

This isn't entirely true, one can only use up 20% of your total as one sees fit.

The MTN website still doesn't make this clear:
21. The MTN AnyTime and MTN Off peak packages are voice packages and are not to be used primarily for data.

So basically it's a random discount that the end user can not prove he should be getting? Just checking. ;)
