Hey folks! I was wondering if you guys and gals could shed some light on a problem I seem to be having since October.

I have a 4mb line. My ISP is Mweb Uncapped (basic package). I have a Billion 400G Router as well as a Mega 105 WR Router.

I've noticed that my International takes ages to load and at times does not load at all. Sites like www.yahoo.com or www.hotmail.com or www.microsoft.com take 6-19 minutes to load.

When I do a speed test I get a ping to Durban of 240ms or 860ms at the highest. The Upload and Download part of the test fails.

My Ping tests are as follows:

I've spoken to Telkom technicians (5) and all they do is reset me on the exchange, fiddle with the DSLAM and reset my router.

I've spoken to an Mweb technician and was told the following:

Mweb DSL Interrogation Test Line Intermittent 1st Fine - 2nd Interrogation Test 2mins later found following info

ATUC Current Rate 0kbps
ATUC SNR 0.db
ATUC Attenuation = 0.db
ATUC Max Rate 0.kbps
ATUC Min Rate 0.kbps
ATUC Alarm State = Unknown This is displayed for any faults on DSLAM Port

Please can someone help me solve this.

What area you in? also can you attach a tracert so I can see where the line spikes from.

I'm in Reservoir Hills - Durban, just a few meters from the exchange here.

your dns settings right/on automatic?
I also struggled first time with this then when I dailed it on my pc it worked fine but then I noticed it uses completely different dns settings.
My dns settings atm = 196.28.182.20 and 196.28.182.19, thats the default when you dail it on your pc.
Otherwise try and disconnect the account on your router and dail it on your pc and see if there is still a problem.

Yes my DNS settings are set to Automatic. Even if I change them, I STILL get the same problem.

Can someone PLEASE tell me whether my problem lies with Telkom and the Exchange in my area or with Mweb?

Look, you will have slow connections to Telkom, because the packets are going from Mweb SA to London and then back to Telkom.
Yahoo is also international, so again you might experience slow connectivity.

However, Google, Microsoft and a couple of other big websites are available locally.
Rather do a trace route / ping to www.aardvark.co.za or www.take2.co.za or mybroadband.co.za, since all of them are local.

I would also suggest that you remove all other telephonic devices from your telephone line and plug your router in directly on the telephone line. Then check & post your Line attenuation and SNR margins here.
