So some telkom person phones me in the beginning of the month with an ADSL special. I agree and then they say a technician will come in about two weeks to install. 3 weeks later I call them and then they say that it actually is 6 days to process and 14 days to install. Not normal days, working days. So based on this it should take about a year to get the line installed. But then when they check the system, the call centre guy tells me that there is no ADSL infrastructure in my area which is a very business and residential part of Johannesburg in Sunninghill. This cant be true. Does anyone know if there is no infrastructure in Peltier Drive in Sunninghill.

I googled and the private property ads even advertise ADSL installed lines in this road.

I dont trust the competence of this mediocre Dina Pule monopoly so this is reason Im questioning this. Probly spelt my street name wrong and then just cancelled my application. So disgusted that noone bothered to even inform me about cancelling my application. Waiting for weeks like a fool for the line.

Sunninghill definitely does have ADSL. Townhouse on Lingerette Rd and one close to the prison on Nanyuki Rd both have DSL (installed in April and July). Both installations took a lot of patience as the infrastructure in the area is pretty bad. 2Mb is stable, 4Mb will drop about 15 times a day and 10Mb won't even sync.

Just keep trying if you really want a line. Otherwise 3G/LTE in the area is pretty good, especially if you can get an antenna on your roof. Cell C have a tower at the Spar, 8ta have a tower on the corner of Nanyuki and Tana, MTN have a tower on Van der Bijl, close to the church. Vodacom is pretty horrible in the area with a lot of dead spots, and they completely ignore any request for help so don't even bother.

Hope that helps.

IEver since 3 month trial m from telkom, i vowed that i would not want to be a telkom or 8ta client. I realised that the chances of being milked dry by telkom are much higher than you being shot or mugged. Myself and two other colleagues got R2000-r3000 bills for the 3months. Noone could help from telkom. Eventually we all realised the benefits of having investing in legal reps. We definitely got specials from telkom

Utter BS. Person I know (and visit frequently) is about 600 meters from there, has a 2 meg line. Attenuation of around 50db, but it's there.

'no infrastructure' does not mean there is no ADSL in the area, but rather no open ports available.
