Hi All

It took Telkom 3 working to install my DSL line and get connected to the internet. I did not expect things to work that fast.

When using my telephone, I noticed that there is this buzzing noise when making calls.

My modem and telephone are sharing the same line. Would this noise degrade speed online?
I have a 384kbps line and was downloading between 60kb - 90kb per second yesterday @ 19h00.

Should I be calling Telkom?

Regards
L

It's a small device, but, what it looks like is not the point, there are many different designs for the same thing.

But, you can tell by following the telephone cable from your ADSL modem ... at some point a device should be present that splits the telephone line leaving the wall into two, one split goes to your phone, the other split goes to your modem.

Now, this device is slightly bulkier than the standard telephone line splitter.

You can get one for around R40 from a telkom shop, ask for an ADSL line splitter.

If you do have a filter then you may need to get Telkom out to your house.

I had a lot of noise on my line and they came out and replaced the cable from the pole to the house and that sorted that out.

Luckily the noise on the phone line didn't translate to a loss of speed on the DSL link.
