My friend has a 384 line. He was supposed to be upgraded to a 1mb line for free last year October.
I called telkom and today and they upgraded him to a 1mb. He switched of his router and switched it back on. He is currently receiving 384 speeds. I called telkom and their horrible customer service said that speeds of 0.32 mbps are normal on a 1mb. I know for a fact that that is a completely wrong. When I was on a 1 mb I achieved speeds of 1.10mbps. They said that they would log a fault, but my friend would be charged for it.

Telkom have once again proven why they are the worst company in South Africa

Any solutions?

Since when do they charge for logging faults? Sounds like his attenuation is too high and/or SNR too low. What are his line stats?

They charge an "unnecessary call-out fee." I think OP may have misinterpreted that.

I have to agree with you, sounds like line stats are too screwy. Hopefully a techie can resolve.
