Hi guys,

Not sure in which forum to post this, so this one goes here, because I think it's the most read forum. :)

There used to be a number (something like 10999 or 10333) which one could dial, and the Telkom service would then tell you which number you are dialling from... Almost like a self-identification service.

A friend of mine just moved into a new flat, and wants to activate her Telkom line, but we can't dial out from the line, even though it is active, so I am assuming it's a prepaid line. But for the life of me I can't remember what that Telkom number is which will identify the number.

This is a big stab into the dark, so I hope someone can help me.

Thanx

The brain is amazing...

Ok, so after about a day's worth of subconcious digging, I remembered the number... 101999. The systems reads you back the number from where you are calling from.

Any takers for the explanation of recall memory? Why does it take so long to recall? Hehehe

I would've helped you out, but someone, tsk tsk tsk, Load-Sheded me (or something)

Glad you got sorted though :)

Telkom sometimes do a preliminary block on lines where there is a transfer of ownership. Technically the status is called SUBLOMAIN (EWSD exchanges) after the the software command to "block subscriber for main trunk calls". It allows you to still identify with 101999, and for Telkom its just a matter of lifting the restriction without sending a tech out.
