I have ADSL Mweb/Telkom. On Saturday both the ADSL internet-link as well as my Telkom landline was stone dead for a couple of hours. I received an e-mail from Telkom on Sunday (the line came on again late on Saturday afternoon) saying there was an "outage" "in your area".
My question is - what the hell is an "outage"??
And does getting ADSL mean that my telephone will now be prone to dying at times??

Thanks

I REALLY REALLY hate Neotel for failing so badly in it's role as decent opposition to Telkom. I am beginning to feel about them as I feel about Telkom.

Outage = services are down, interruption in services, no services etc. etc.

You can feel quite fortunate that you received an email telling you what happened, in my 5 years of having ADSL I've never had that happen.. :p

It just means that somewhere in your area, either at the exchange or a critical connection point there were problems.

Will your phone die if you have ADSL? I highly doubt it, unless you have physical problems on it. In a 6month period generally my adsl is down for a few hours about 10 days, but the phone works usually.

The same has happened to me ...... I reckon it's when the exchange dies, for whatever reason. Luckily mine was only like that for about 4 hours or so. Haven't experienced it since (3months later) .... just think of it as loadshedding :p:D

welcome to south africa... what next? water shedding??

I've had that before, if you ask for details you confuse the call centre representative and they revert back to the manual which instructs them to just repeat their fist line.

"There was an outage in your area"
