Helloo! I was just wondering, what sort of pings my fellow Telkom Users are getting?

I have a 4MB Telkom line & I'm getting sad pings of 750+ on TH.

On my old server I used to get 400-600.

Ppl have mentioned an Axxess acount. I have one - its a 1GB account thats Unshaped. I use it soley for WoW however it gets capped in 3 days.

I dont know what to make of it. I've changed the password on the account & my Router & still it just flies.

Please someone tell me if this is normal? :(

And how I can go about getting lower pings?

I tried that Reg Hack thing, but couldnt find the appropriate Reg Key. I got confused...

hmm...I have a Webafrica Unshaped account which gives me around 280-350ms. 1gig lasts me about half a month, but I use it sometimes for normal internet usages (Youtube, browsing etc etc :o )

Using a 4mbps line from Telkom. Your usages and pings aren't normal. Maybe you have a wireless thats open and someone is abusing it?

You can use a tunneling service such as gamemax.org i get pings of below 240 using them. I have a 2048 line with webafrica unshaped, i tried axxess and found there service to be a bit unreliable, especially there semi-shaped offering.

Wow those are some great pings! <3 I think I'm going to have to scrap my Telkom Account as its not proving to be practical at all. :(

With reguards to someone abusing my account. Any idea as to how they might be doing or what I need to do in order to safeguard my connection?

Yeah I wasnt too happy with their Semi either, however their Unshaped gives me an amazing ping like Method's, however my cap just runs out too quickly & I cant afford to keep on topping up.

I've also checked the bandwidth meter & things seem ok.

Check to ensure your wireless router has WPA encryption enabled, do not use WEP encryption as that is easily crackable. Also scan your machines connected to your router/internet for malware/trojans/viruses.

Awesome, doing that now, thank you very much! I hope this changes things! :o

Should I change my PSK String / Pre-Shared Key?

leave it to the default one specified underneath the router.

Yeah, i've had that happen to me once or twice. Very suspicious.

Get a program called statbar. http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Info/StatBar.shtmlIts a nice little bar that sits at the top of your screen and reports in usage and there is no need to install it either, just run the exe. Just make sure you add network traffic meter to the display. When you play WOW should always be under 10K download speed. If its higher you either infected with a virus/trojan or windows or anti virus etc is doing its updates. Also some programs updates do go faulty and because of corrupt files continously download. Statbar will tell you this however from reading its download and upload speeds when sitting at the desktop.

why not just use pingfu then ?

...seems like its the same idea - tunnel traffic from you to server, server to wow

Using gamemax as well.. Unfortunately I only got a standard sh*tty telkom shaped account until Jan next year, getting 400ms

I got a unshaped Axxess account for my 4 Mbit line.

I was using a Telkom modem before and was getting around 400 - 500ms.

Recently I brought a new modem Netgear DGN2000, Latency now is 200 - 250, nothing has changed from my side except for the modem.

It actually feels strange playing WoW with the connection always green.

ok how does whole tunneling thing works differently from the normal way of playing wow - any one please care to explain ? :o

....had 2 pc's on last night on my 384k line using semi unshaped, did an instance at ±212ms solid for both my pc's and my friend who is on wa's unshaped was doing around 240ms - i can swear by gamemax ;)

beginning to think that unshaped isn't unshaped as it should be, because it seems to be shaped and prioritized still for certian ports over each over but not as strict as shaped.

with a tunnel your connection to sent to a server that in turn connects you to the game server, the connection to these tunnels are done via secure method ssh or socks. Usually using a shaped connection you do not get prioritized to these servers as they passed as http or ftp traffic. Thus you get decent latency, and the servers that you tunnel to are less hops from the server.

site: www.gamemax.org
setup: http://www.gamemax.org/setup
faq: http://www.gamemax.org/faq

what you need todo
1) apply on the site

2) get the putty installer here
http://tartarus.org/~simon/putty-snapshots/x86/putty-installer.exe

3) proxification software like sockscap or freecap
http://surfonym.com/files/

4) registry entries for putty
http://www.gamemax.org/files/pamela.gamemax.org.zip

basic setup
  1. install putty
  2. import the registry entries for putty
  3. setup your proxification software (this is socks cap setup, some software only requires an address with the type as socks with port instead of tcp and udp setup. also you would have to add what application it should tunnel instead of tunneling everything)
    1. adding socks server
      .set "SOCKS server" as 127.0.0.1
      .set "Port" as 443
      .select "SOCKS Version 5 "
      .select "Resolve all names locally"
    2. adding udp port
      .click "Apply"
.under "SOCKS Version 5 Direct UDP Ports" click "Add"
      .type "3724"
      .click "OK"
      .click "Apply" and "OK"
    3. adding wow.exe
.Click the "Browse..." button and find your wow.exe, this will be where your WoW is installed.
.all the fields will be filled automatically
      .click "OK"
    4. lastly you should see the wow icon added :)
  4. start putty and double click on pamela under Saved Sessions (this is added from the registry entries)
  5. log in with username and password supplied
  6. start wow, alt tab and check the proxification software to see if its actually tunneling
  7. play wow !

what you need todo play again
  1. start proxification software
  2. start putty and double click on pamela under Saved Sessions
  3. log in with username and password supplied
  4. start wow
