Telkom PPOE client error

I have 2 machines, one with Win XP and the other with Win98, on the win 98 machine I had to install the Telkom PPOE client to be able to connect. A few weeks ago I had a weird error where when I connect, it says it connects to the server but I cant even get out of my machine, I ran trace routes and it does not even find the first hop even though it connected successfully. First I thought the Telkom servers were down, but I connected fine with my XP machine.
I suspected the PPOE client was corrupt so I did an uninstall and reinstalled it, and suddenly it worked fine again. This lasted for about 2 weeks and the same thing happened again, and then one week later this past weekend it happened again
Anyone else stumbled across this? Any advice?

Thanks i will give it a try,
I was just a bit worried after reading all the posts about peeps being able to hack into your adsl client, was wondering if this could be the case here and what the symptoms would be after someone screwed up your modem settings.
