Telkom technician working on my line yesterday (issue still not resolved..) said that the Wynberg exchange is being upgraded in preparation for 80Mb VDSL with ETA of June this year.

Don't know if I believe him though, since he can't work out why my DSL won't sync.

This is stupid...majority of the country can't sustain even 10mb but they pushing for 80mb. Telkom are a joke

Telkom should firstly get all their exchanges up to at least 10Mbps spec. All these service providers love telling us how fast their fastest service is yet fail to tell us that only around 1% [best guess] of internet users will ever see it...

80Mbps....Why don't they just give us 100Mbps?? It is as Spooner mentioned, that all these new, flashy services cannot be accessed by the majority of the country. In my area, I can only get a maximum of 4Mbps :(

Also, I would like Telkom to shed off all the slow speeds...make the minimum speed 10Mbps...so there should be 10Mbps, 20Mbps, 40Mbps...etc.

The technicians are stupid. they came to fix my dsl the other day i asked him when can i move to the MSAN down my road, he looked at me as if i was from another planet and the idiot told me 10meg connections are not available in south africa and Telkom doesn't supply those speeds, the max you can get from telkom is a 4meg. He also said if you want faster speeds then 4meg you can get them from an ISP :/

FTFY

I'd rather read:
Telkom preparing for mayor upgrades to network, IPC etc etc and BT landed?
