I was in the local Post Office the other day, and saw stacks of the new (2007/8) Pretoria telephone directories so I thought, great, I'll take a few for home and the office.
As I do every year, I checked to see if my unlisted number had been published - and there it was! After fifteen years of having the same unlisted number at several addresses, it is now in black and white complete with street address. And this is after the debacle of the unlisted numbers published on their "white pages" website in 2006 (one of which was mine). I can't believe it. Once printed, it will be around for the next 5 years or so, because people are inclined to use phone books for many years before replacing them with new ones.
I can't bear the thought of having to try to contact someone in Telkom or TDS to complain - unanswered call-centre phones, unhelpful responses, etc., never mind the fact that because of work pressure I don't have the time. Last time it took TDS months to fix their website after the story was published on MyADSL. And how do you fix something that has been printed and distributed to all Post Offices in Pretoria?
So much for Telkom's respect for the right to privacy.
Here come the spam phone calls, etc.
