Telkom Rant - No Internet

Hey all

I just felt like ranting on a public forum, since we know Telkom doesn't do sh*t.
I complained about slow internet speeds (I mean REALLY slow) on my 4mb line. Within 3 days a techy called and disconnected my internet entirely, citing 'a problem on their side'.
I've had no internet ever since. Any call to Telkom results in being told there's lots of faults in my area, and there's a delay. Oh really? Then how come you were so quick to TURN ME OFF!!??!

I'm in the Bloubosrand/Randburg area 011 462XXX.

may come as a shock to some but I've never had problems with telkom. Had a problem, logged a fault and the techie came out the next morning at 9:30. Problem solved in 1 hour, didn't give any lame excuses like faults here and there, said straight they upgraded my DSLAM I think it was and they didn't connect my line correctly and he apologized and sorted it out.
 
Also never had problems with Telkom. I logged a fault on 15/12 and they arrived 16/12 on a public holiday to bring me back online.
 
I'm still waiting for Telkom to fix my line which crackles so bad I often cannot hear, especially on mobile calls which are faint. They send me SMS saying "problem has been resolved". No-one called, no-one phoned. Have been waiting since September and reported this 4 times.
 
I never had a problem until the exchange got hit by lightning 3 weeks ago. THEY STILL HAVEN'T FIXED IT!

Well, that is a bit serious. I mean they have to unpack the box from China and plug it in.
 
Well my newly installed Telkom line (was installed on the 1st) had ADSL activated on it - which never worked and the line went dead if you phoned it. Reported on the 7th and nothing has happened since then. We've called every day since then from a cellphone which is hellishly expensive and have been reassured it has been escalated several times yet nothing has happened.

Sigh.
 
I guess some of us have had good luck and others bad - which is terrible that we have to rely on luck in order for us to get good service. In my situation I could say that they got to me fairly quickly (within 3 days as I mentioned), but then they'd made it worse and now won't come and fix it.
I hate to say this...but when I was on Neotel, I was one of the lucky few who it actually worked for, and was faster than my '4 meg' DSL line was giving me before Telkom went and killed my internet entirely.

Hey Stroebs, when we had our line installed we had no internet and no working phone line for an entire month before Telkom fixed it.
 
Ha, sounds about right, called today to get the dsl cap management service activated, this after I requested the service on the 15th. After holding and being shuffled around for 2 hours the kind call centre agent deactivated my internet, how she confused deactivate with activate cap management I don't know, after some more fiddling she informed me the service was active and I could top-up, which she tried to accomplish on her end only to tell me that it does not work and I would have to call back tomorrow. Now when I try and access the Telkomsa.net site it reports a error and my e-mail also does not work. Great it seems they broke the pop3 server too, lol.
 
Finally got my line sorted today. A techie came out and fixed a short circuit on the line, then had to sync my ADSL down to 7Mb due to the distance from the exchange. Just glad it works now!
 
Update!

Finally got internet back, but still only at 2 megs. Guess I must be too far from the exchange. The techie didn't tell me anything to suggest why, he just kinda hung up. Oh well. At least I have internet.

Ask for your line to be upped to 4096 then change your modulation to G.Dmt. and you should sync fine.

keep reporting it.

As soon as you receive the ''resolved'' sms.

Eventually a clever person will contact you....
 
I have waited 3 years for them to activate my phone line - let alone ADSL.
