So I am battling to get a 2nd telkom line installed at a separate location with telkom. Placed the order yesterday with them and they say I have to pay a deposit(fair enough) but what they don't seem to understand that I have already paid the deposit last year!!!! on my telkom account it clearly states that "deposit Retained until final invoice R700" so which indicates that there is a deposit on my line but when you speak to them they can not see it. I call activation center to find out about status of order again then they say I must pay deposit and then I explain that I have a deposit on my account, then get told must go through to billing so then I go through to billing and they say there is nothing on my account about outstanding deposit money and that the person on the activations side does not know what they are talking about so then they transfer me to another activations lady and she tells me I need to speak to Billings so I completely lost it with them and they said they would speak to a supervisor but they can not currently speak to the supervisor as he is in a meeting but would be sorted yesterday. SO I left it till this morning and now I call back to speak to someone in activations again and guess what nothing was done yesterday afternoon with regards to speaking to a supervisor. Now the lady I spoke to said I must mail her my account and show her where it states that I have a deposit. I am trying to get my order in so that I can have my line installed on the 2nd or 3rd at my place in Jozi. It is not like I am asking telkom to perform a miracle just need a 2nd line on my account at a different property. but it seems like for them that it is the biggest mission ever to get it through to them.,....

where is the telkom rep when you need him, is he still around on this forum is there any chance that he can look into the matter cos it is getting more and more urgent as the days go by.

They can be a serious pain, I understand you loosing it.
But at the same time Telkom can really offer a great product.
That's what annoys me.
One person is great while the other is useless.

Exactly they offer a decent product but to get the people in billlings and activations to understand seems like a mission. they seem to be so dumb lately.

not to sure, but the paid deposit, is it not for the line you already have? Not sure how the credit vetting/rating goes, but the activation of an additional line, would change the current rating score you have with Telkom. From personal experience, Telkom systems are rather restrictive with info, depending on which department you are talking to...hope you get it sorted, must just ad, Telkom's performance has improved in the last while...customer services included.

In 2009, when Telkom's statements were sent by post, I received an account labelled "final account". They had decided that my account was to be closed. I was then told that I would have to re-apply and get a different number. Shouting at the call centre agents made no difference, so I called at a Telkom Direct shop and spoke to several wallies there, none of them knowing what to do. After an hour, they got the bright idea to call their accounts dept and de-flag the termination request.

Amazingly enough, I got to keep my phone and received back my deposit (a whole R25,00 since I had this phone since 1970)

Oh wow, this is an amazing story.
No wait, it's not.
And it's entirely out of context.
