Hi Peeps

Can anyone assist me here Telkom has just called saying my telephone line has FINALLY been converted to a DSL line and that I can continue with the self install, can anyone tell me if there is anything else I need to do to setup apart from setup router and contract ISP ?

I saw this somewhere on the forums but not sure if i need this ???

https://secureapp.telkom.co.za/ADSLVERIFY_NEW

Thanks peeps

As far as i know, just plug ure telephone line into the router and see if it syncs, if yes get isp and account, if no phone telkom

Hey all

I'm in a similiar situtation got my new adsl line adsl Router was connecting fine, went to the verify page plugged in my details, which then said congrats line verified, please wait 30 mins.

and then after the 30 mins time frame I have been unable to connect, the adsl line is syncing, but thats as far as it goes if i try connect via windows I get error 651.

Telkom internet support seemed to be rather clueless, after trying various things and have logged a complaint to check the line etc.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be the the problem?

Cheers

Currently using telkom for the isp and have tried to dial via the router and windows with no success

Myzer, it could be your account is not activated yet. Don't know how hardup you are for bandwidth but it may be worth it to get an Axxess prepaid account to test your modem.

Best bet is to go into a store and ask them to demo your account.

cbrunsdonza the account is up and working have tested it out.

I still have my old ADSL line active in my old house so took the modems (telkom&billion) one there and they both connected to the net via the router and windows.

So it all comes down to it looks like the line itself in the house is not configured properly or the port is damaged..

But will phone "Trusty" ol Telkom this morning again and try resolve it.

Cheers for tall the ideas

Hey All

Just to let you know the problem is sorted

Telkom recreated the port/settings and all is working now

Now as to why the stupid techie i phoned Monday could not do that is beyond me.(must have been a weekend babalaas)

Cheers

Hi,

I am doing self-install - how do telkom actually activate this - as far as I underdstand, they don't come to your house... do they need to go to the box on your street corner though?

Also, does one need the line filter thing and does this link between the modem and the wall plug?

Regards

Yes if you do self-install then Telkom does not send a technician to your house to install filters & setup your ADSL, I think they just activate your line on the exchange.

You'll need to connect a POTS filter to each telephone that is plugged into the phone line. Ie. if you are not going to use a telephone on the line (only ADSL) then you don't need any POTS filters.

Some modems come with a filter/splitter (the splitter just splits the line into two jacks) otherwise you can purchase filters from a Telkom shop.

Sorry, I have another question - is there any way to know whether it is activated before they phone you - or are they quite reliable about phoning?

Thanks

Telkom a very good at calling you, but keep your router plugged in and watch for a changed state of your ADSL Sync Light, if you have one. It may go from flashing to a steady one.

Let me phone Telkom back and ask for a filter rather, maybe then they will know what i am talking about
