:wtf: I have had my line operational for about a week now (both ADSL and landline). I opted not to list my number, as I could not be bothered to get even more telesale cr@p phonecalls. Only about 5 people (all family) know of my landline number. Yet 10 minutes ago I get a feakin Telesale call ?

A company going by the name Info Africa (which I can't find online). I insisted on their office numbers and how they got my number, the lady just says she gets given a list. I try phone the number given to me and another lady answers and denies any knowledge of the so called company.

I have reported this to Telkom and demanded they investigate....

Did they (Info Africa) ask to speak to you by name?
I ask because perhaps they were looking for someone who owned that number before you.

I doubt Telkom will be investigating this... sorry for my lack of belief in Telkom investigators.

Random auto dialer mate. Telkom don't need to sell it and if they did you probarly didnt read the "fine" print cause they usually have that in there to protect them from any recourse

A single call isn't enough. Could just be a fluke.

Wouldn't be surprised though if its true.

Info Africa sounds familiar. I think I got the same spiel a while ago (Also "I just received a list").

Received a call from VOX telesales lady. Asked for me by name and asked if I had adsl line as well. They get a list of numbers somewhere.

They knew my name, asked for me directly.... peevs me off that I have to have the voice part of Helkom to have ADSL. So now I am paying to be harassed at home in my private time. The Telkom dude I spoke to said he could clearly see on their system that i insisted on keeping my number private / unlisted. He reckons it must be the RICA compliance side or either the Credit Check....

Ja, that happened to us as well at the office. So they knew somehome that I had ADSL... but it could have been from a previous ISP.

Say please hold and put the phone down somewhere and play a long PC game.

I had a call within the week that the line got installed from Virgin active, but they asked for my mother, who is in South Korea and the line is in my name. Do not know what to make of that though.

Erm... stupid question, but why not simply unplug the voice part as you so elegantly put it. Simply don't connect a telephone to the line and wham, problem solved.

Bah... try getting a brand new line, and ending up with a number 2 digits removed from the local Joshua Doore! Gimme telesales carp instead any day of the week!
