Telkom Shareholders list

Well - heres food for thought

having said i would never stick my neck out again, heres a thought.
We as a forum, could buy some shares. That way our chosen rep (or reps) with shareholders voting rights, get to go to all shareholders meetings inclusing the AGM where we could ask potentially HUGELY damning questions.
food for thought.....

I've been trying to convey that sort of idea to Gregg, w1z4rd et al. (i.e. the anti-shareholders brigade) for ages!

A full list of shareholders is held by both STRATE (part of JSE who hold all records of every share traded on JSE) and Computershare who are their registrars and these details are public because they are publicly traded. This list however will make no sense to the average joe as you will not be able to differentiate between beneficial and registered shareholders. IE: most of the registered shareholders will be fund managers, asset managers, banks etc. This is because shares are traded through a broker who will hold shares on behalf of their client and help to manage their portfolio, and for various other reasons. No share register analysis will provide you with enough of a threshold to make any decisions about private investors. What might help though is if a portfolio manager at an asset manager were to call up Telkom's investor relations department and request a summary of the share register analysis, however this is unlikely to be disclosed. The only company who is allowed full disclosure according to the company's act is Telkom and whoever provides them with their share register analysis. I know for a fact that Telkom's share register analysis provider is JPMorgan Casenove so you might want to try find a mole there. Other SRA providers include Link, Thomson Analytics and I cant remember the others.

Also: a breakdown of the share ownership information is always included in the annual report which is also public and should be downloadable off the Telkom investor relations website. Telkom Head of Investor Relations is Nicola White. Telkom also has a level 2 ADR program through Bank of New York meaning that their shares are actively traded on the New York Stock Exchange. This is a loop-hole that I dont think anyone has explored yet as this would require Telkom to abide to a certain extent to US laws. I am no lawyer so maybe someone could dig into this avenue?

Hope this helps...

Actually you probably wont be able to ask these questions because the majority of question time is provided to analysts and major shareholders such as fund managers and other large asset managers with exposure to Telkom. You would need to take a considerable stake in Telkom for it to be noticed. I dont think all of us combined could put together enough 'spare' cash to make a difference. Also remember, it might be a requiement in Telkom's share offering that any shareholder who controls less than 1% is forced to provide a proxy vote. This means that your vote will be given to a specific board member and you back whatever changes they wish to make - ie: you have no vote effectively. This is exactly how Shoprite delisted - their CEO held about 30% of all proxy voting rights.

The question everyone is asking - how many shares does Iuy have

None. If she held shares in Telkom she would be breaking Parliamentary law.

As for her second cousin, twice removed, well, that's anyone's guess...

to invest or not to invest....

ok ok -- i know this might a bit off the subject....but do you think its worth investing in some shares with Telkom??
Or will they get sold out......:confused:
Please help:D
