So telkom has deactivated my simcard which had approx r1250 airtime. The card was used for data most of the time. Apparently these guys over at telkom deactivated it and erased all the history apon calling and finding out what's going on.... I'm told it's still on my name but was deactivated...their reason for deactivation is no calls was made in awhile, although it still had a positive airtime balance!
My last airtime recharge(r1350) was in december of 2019, Data was bought on that card and used some time in January 2020 and February 2020, I also had some airtime transferred on the 14th of March 2020 and had 1-2 more transfers within that month which I don't recall the dates, the card was deactivated in May....so today they reactivated my card but no airtime has been replaced.

A few years ago, I also built up over R1000 on a SIM. I was preparing to buy 50 GB when my previous bundle ran out.

Like the OP, I also neglected to keep it alive through nominal activity. Before I could buy that bundle, Telkom deleted the sim and the airtime.

I went to the Menlyn branch. They could see the old transactions on the SIM and fired off an email to head office. Fortunately head office restored the balance.

I really hope Telkom give you the benefit of the doubt because the lockdown changed normal usage patterns.

Apparently the guys over at telkom erased all the history for the card so they cant take a look at that in my case. I took a look at telkoms q&a section on there website and it states that if a card is ceased and had any airtime on it "you can ask for a refund, which would be issued in line with there refund and credit process" however the guys over at telkom ain't doing that with me, about two weeks back a case was opened in regards to the airtime.... they suppose to get back to me but as expected they never did I called them a week ago and they told me to wait an extra 5 more days and they will get back to me which they never did, today i called them and they said that the case was closed.....theres no history for the card so no airtime was there... Call centre guys are useless.

Almost the same here. SIM used mainly for data. Found out this morning from articles on the web that my Telkom Mobile PAYG SIM card is deactivated. I can not call them as I am stuck in the UK (since March) until international travel is allowed again to SA. Could still be months. International roaming for SMS was active on my SIM and I received SMS's when logging in to my one bank account. OTP's connected to a UK SIM number. Tried the Telkom SIM card in a new phone and attempted to activate the Capitec app when I realised something wrong with SIM. Shows zero signal strength and phone gives error message at reboot to the effect that the SIM card can't be registered. Yesterday and today tried buying airtime using my other working banking app. Error message that something's wrong with that cell number. Now busy trying to contact Telkom via e-mail. Not happy at all!!!

Anyone knows what the exact rules are around this regarding Telkom Mobile prepaid sims?

I received an sms twice now in a few months time. It states no activity for past 50 days however I have activity on the sim, within the same month the sms was sent... outgoing and incoming phones calls and smss...

This practise should be against the law because of RICA that sim is registered to your name. Also whether its credits or not its real money and value on sim cards. Where is the consume protector on this one?
