Telkom smart home advanced a rip off!

I was considering moving to a smart home advanced package,as i am currently on a 2mb line and would like to move to a 4mb line.

My current tariff:

*Telkom closer plan = 350
*WebAfrica capped = 149
*WebAfrica line rental = 150
*Total = 649


Telkom smart home advanced

*Unlimited landline calls
*50mins on sim(i have a vodacom contract)
*500mb on sim(i only use 200mb on my vodacom contract cos i have adsl)
*4mb line
*20GB cap

*Total = 569*24 months!

If i choose to move to a 4mb line on WebAfrica my monthly cost will increase by R100 but i will not be locked into a contract.

*Conclusion

749 - 569 = R180 saving with telkom but i would be locked into a 24month contract and will still require my 40GB cap from Webafrica@149.

Has anyone taken a similar package from telkom?Would you ever consider it?

I say no to to contracts no matter how enticing the deal because think about it there might be some new enticing deal month to month maybe in six months time and then you cant change because you locked into a contract.
 
Nobody is forcing anybody to take a contract and you would be much better off not signing up for one.
 
How's is it a rip off for somebody who is not currently on a Vodacom contract for mobile voice and data or have an existing ADSL contract with a different ISP???

Like all packages, if it does not suit you then move along and find one that does.
 
I decided to upgrade my speed with WebAfrica,i would rather pay more than have a telkom contract.i was annoyed with that package because 20gigs is pathetic on a 4mb line.If telkom had a bigger cap then i would have taken the contract.I spoke to an agent and he mentioned that both sim cards are treated like an open contract.I already have a mobile contract and any billing errors on the 2sims would annoy me.
 
Has anyone signed up for this deal which now has Unlimited Nightsurfer and Microsoft Office with free data to some sites.

Would like to know how fast NS is on a 4mb line.

It makes sense to get this if you're already on Telkom Closer.
 
Well the night surfer data is free for all the Telkom softcap accounts 10GB and above so it is not limited to these deals only. The hardware and extras are exclusive to these deals and that is where the Smart Home premium and Smart Home supreme offers way more value for money.

You can take this package from Telkom on a month to month basis, you just don't get the router and dongle.
What does a telkom 4MB line cost compared to a 2MB line
I currently have 1 2MB line with 10GB.

R100 extra for 4mb and an extra 10Gb data
