If Telkom is my SP how do I send outside of their netowrk if I'm at a iCafe or coffee shop?

I have tried smtp.saix.net and set outbound authentication with no luck.

Sorry this might sound silly, but, is your domain hosted with Telkom or are you referring to the ADSL / Broadband connection being hosted with Telkom?

The cafe might be on the IS backbone, in which case it will then tell you this:
Code:
The following recipient(s) cannot be reached:

      '*****@telkomsa.net' on 2011/02/24 05:02 PM
            530 SMTP authentication is required.

Saw something like this before and sukkeled my ass off.

Telkom has has more than one SMTP server host name which is dependent on the method off access.

Once setup a neighbours laptop and the thing just would not send mail. At home from my adsl line using a different ISP it worked fine with one of their smtp server names but once I took it across the road to use on their adsl with Telkom as ISP the frigging thing would not send mail. Ended up changing to one of their other smtp servers and it worked fine.

Try these:
smtp.dsl.telkomsa.net
smtp.telkomsa.net Think this is for dialup only
smpt.telkom.net
mail.telkomsa.net

yes, the smtp server that you'll have to use is dependent on the way you access the internet.

ADSL: smtp.dsl.telkomsa.net
DIAL UP/IDSN (I think): smtp.telkomsa.net

Although now I see: smtp.dsl.telkomsa.net resolves to:
Code:
C:\Users\Nathan>ping smtp.dsl.telkomsa.net

Pinging smtp.saix.net [196.43.2.142] with 32 bytes of data:
/confused

Thanks guys, the thing is this colleague of mine travels quite a bit and it really is a pain in the ass to have to change the outbound SMTP every time they connect to a different network.

I wonder if there is a gap to make some spare cash with offering an SMTP server that allows basic username and password auth for sending instead of IP filtering.

Xz, the reason for that is they have CNAME'd smtp.dsl.telkomsa.net to smtp.saix.net

Why is this in the hardware section and why 2 thread?

And why are you posting crap??

It's a computer problem, computers are hardware, and ADSL line is hardware, a mail server is hardware, and the reason for 2 threads is to get an objective answer. Not everyone visits both sections.

FFS, there really are a bunch of twisted knickered old tannies on this forum lately.

Apoloies for resurrecting this thread.

I have same problem.

Email is with Intekom, as [email protected];
On the iPhone, the incoming and outgoing settings are as such:
POP incoming mail server = mail.intekom.com
SMTP outgoing mail server = mail.intekom.com
(source: http://home.intekom.com/intekom/corporate/configuration.html)

But I am amm unable to send messages out--whether I am in Telkom ISP wifi range or mobile (vodacom 3G/LTE).

Can anyone tell me how to get this working? Does the SSL switch need to be on or off? I have entered authentication in the SMTP setting too. no luck.

I read somewhere there is a generic smtp server (universal smtp) settings that overcomes these mobility issues.

What I do not want to do is keep changing the SMTP when I am at home and then mobile.

Help and pointers appreciated.
Thanks.
