The question is quite broad as it covers at least three different legs ... so to speak.
Firstly: Will you be paying more for your line rental?
Secondly: Will you be paying more for your uncapped account?
Lastly: Will you be paying more for your capped account?
Firstly: Telkom had their annual price adjustment on the first of August 2012. Monthly ADSL Line rental for their own clients got pushed upwards to:
R165.00 for up to 1mbps, R299.00 for up to 2mbps, R425.00 for up to 10mbps. The line rental wholesale rate to ISPs also increased. So Yes, you will be paying more for the line rental. But, it will depend on your ISP if they passed the buck to you or not. Who is your ISP that you have your line with?
Secondly: On the uncapped data side, you will probably end up paying more for the move from eg. your old 384kbps uncapped account to the new 1mbps uncapped account OR your old 1mbps uncapped account to the new 2mbps uncapped account. But once again this all depends on who your ISP is. I know of quite a few peeps that opted to rather stay with the 1mbps uncapped account option as they did not want the extra expense associated with the account and also did not need the extra speed. Do you have an uncapped account? With what ISP?
Lastly: On the capped data account side you need to remember that the increase in your line speed might cause that you end up using more data per month automagicaly. If youtube is suddenly faster, you will probably end up watching more youtube videos. It is just in our nature to use more and more if more is available. While the per GB rate did not increase you might land with a bigger bill if you use more data than normal. So if you just do emails I doubt you will end up paying more per month. Do you have a capped account? With what ISP?
TelkomTax-ly: Do not forget that TelkomTax/analogue line rental went up to R148.37 per month now. So when looking at the bigger picture your total internet bill at the end of August had to be higher - no matter what.
