This is a line from their website :

c ADSL connectivity – Telkom staff R354.39 R404 R280.7 R320

First two are installation charges, 354.39 excl vat and 404 incl vat, the 2nd set is rental (yes, monthly RENTAL) 280.7 excl vat and 320 incl vat

Now why can't ALL of us get it at that price? I shudder to think what telkom staff pay for ISDN. (EVEN CHEAPER?!)

I think the 320 per month is about worth the ADSL service we get here don't you think??

The ADSL we have now would be worth around R240.

The same service we have now but with no cap would be better priced. Still not globally competitive, but beggars can't be choosers right - not while playing MONOPOLY.

Telkom would not offer a service to employees at a loss therefore one can see the profit that they make on DSL. This is unacceptable - a fair margin - sure - basic business principles - ripping the ass out of your customers - NOT ON!

Here is the link to that lovely page you talk of, lucky bums

Telkom is laughing at us - they PUBLICLY publish staff prices on their website - do you think they would be this arrogant if they had competition?

This is beyond a joke! They are actually giving us the finger! Here client take that - eat our sh*t sandwhich - we will do what we want because WE CAN!

I reckon they should give the rental out at 320, and keep the isp cost to whatever they have it at now

seems reasonable enough, I reckon I'd live with it then :)

Hmmm assuming that R320 (ADSL line rental for Telkom staff)is the absolute minimal before Telkom takes a loss, and we pay R680 for our line (business pays R800) Telkom makes R360 profit on every line it rents to residentual users and R480 on every business user. Thats marginally over 100% markup on a product for residentual and 150% on bussiness users, wouldn't all businesses love a monopoly [xx(]

EXACTLY - what company thesedays (other than TelCON) operates on margins like this! Not too many I would think!

How fair is this to the consumer?

No wonder Mr. White finds adsl a via-able option for himself. He is paying half the price we're paying.

Is this a slap in the face or what. Im gonna be sick[:(]
Oh and one more thing, can someone enquire about "TI ADSL – Telkom staff" - is there a 3 gig cap for staff?

It would really be interesting to know whether Telko staff are capped on their adsl. Otherwise they get unlimited adsl for R320 ?

I think that would be a reasonable price for unlimited adsl for all South Africans. Is there not something in our constitution about this?

HI there

I have been following this forms for quite a while, and must agree on everything so far.

On the staff issue. My brother is a Telkom techie, an so we have ADSL at their staff prices. Yes, they do get capped. Hence the reason why we had to get second account

On the other hand, even with him working, we still get crap service from Telkom. To get ADSL took about 3 months after the order was placed and the promise that it will be installed and active in a week.

Ok

Fair is fair.

Let Telkom employees get their service at a reduced rate then. Many major companies operate on the basis that they give service to their employees at a lower premium.

At least we know that they get capped, so methinks this subject is not worth pursuing any further then......

This topic seems to be in two places, here and under announcements.

Better that Telkom staff get cheap access to ADSL, provided that it is identical to the public service. That way, Telkom may get some internal complaints from dissatisfied staff, and accept that they really DO have a problem.

I agree that it is not a problem with staff getting a discount, but thats one heck of a big price difference. So, as others have mentioned, that just goes to show how much we're being ripped off. Of course they must make a profit on a service, but then make sure you offer a GOOD service.
