I have seen that TELKOM are now offering static IP addresses with their business adsl accounts.

Does anyone have information whether this is linked directly to the PPPOE account, or do you need to create a L2TP connection to get the static?

Hi durbandave

We used to use the static ip option from Axxess and they used the L2TP option. This was a nightmare as we needed port forwarding and it would randomly lose this. If you search the internet about this you will find that if the line drops or router (Billion) reboots the port forwarding tries to happen before the vpn connection and static ip is up so it drops all the port forwarding rules. I would have to login to the router and do a settings restore and then it would run again for a few days then the same problem. Not sure how Telkom does it but try stay away from the L2TP option. Just my 2c worth.:)

Thanks. We are also using the axxess with L2TP who are soon changing and moving away from that. I am trying to get a secondary account and the TELKOM prices are good. So trying to find out how they deliver the static on the account. Whether it is also the way axxess used to do it or via PPPoE.
